CocoEarth for the Wollemi Pine has been designed
to promote healthy root growth and to minimize
the impact of irregular watering. It is a free draining
mix with a high air filled porosity (AFP) to protect
plants from over watering. A high water retention
efficiency (WRE) combined with high water holding
capacity (WHC) will keep your plants healthy and
  strong with less watering required.

CocoEarth is a range of high quality growing media
made with premium quality Cocopeat and
  CocoBark. CocoEarth products are biologically
stable and retain their physical structure for many
years, as they do not contain composted Pine bark,
  green waste or sewage sludge.

Feeding: The mix contains enough fertilizer to
maintain a Wollemi Pine for 4 -5 months. After this
period a controlled release fertilizer can be applied
to the surface of the pot (placed under the mulch if
present). A low phosphorus fertilizer suitable for
natives is recommended. Use at the rate shown on
the product label.

Watering: Water by saturating the plant as soon as
the potting mix/soil becomes dry in the top 5cm of
the pot – this may be once or twice
a week. The Wollemi Pine does not
tolerate over watering and will
not survive if held for excessive
periods in a constantly moist
potting mix. Ensure you do
not to keep the plant
sitting in a saucer of
water. As a general
rule of thumb, the
lower the light
level, the less
water loss.

     transplant shock.

2. Choose a pot that has good drainage in the base.

3. Put some potting mix in the base of the new pot.

4. Remove the plant from its pot.

5. Tease out some of the roots to encourage growth
from the root ball into the new mix.

6. Place the plant in the centre of the pot resting on the
potting mix. Adjust the depth of planting until the
top of the root ball is around 2 cm below the rim of

Water Retention Efficiency (WRE)

Choosing a potting mix with a high WRE value (>80%) can help Planting & Potting Mix
you save water.

WRE is a measure of how readily a potting mix can be rewet.
The percentage refers to the fraction of a standard volume of
water that is retained in the potting mix after an irrigation.

Water efficient mixes have a WRE of close to 100% which Low WRE Rating High WRE Rating
indicates that the mix has retained all the applied water and
there has been no leaching.

Most potting mixes have a WRE closer to 50% which means that
half the irrigation water drains out of the mix. This has two
important consequences:

1. The mix must be watered for twice as long to rewet.
2. More fertilizer is required to replace nutrients lost in
     drainage water.

The StandardsMark
Quality in potting mix is a major issue and has long been
recognised as such by the broader horticultural and gardening
industries. Potted plants require particular attention, as they
cannot rely on the leaching of nutrients and organic material
from the surrounding earth to sustain them. The physical and
chemical composition of their soil is critical to their ongoing CocoEarth Planting & Potting Mix has a WRE rating of 99%.
survival and health. The simple fact is that without objective
guarantees, consumers cannot be assured that the product they
are purchasing is adequate for its purpose.

Those potting mixes which bear the StandardsMark have been
independently tested and certified as containing an appropriate
mix of nutrients, in a suitable base material, to meet the needs of
potted species. There are two ‘levels’ of certification, signified by
black and red StandardsMarks.

Black: denotes a ‘regular’ potting mix that will support plant
growth, but may require the addition of particular fertilisers or
other nutrient products from time to time, depending on the
species concerned. Red: denotes a ‘premium’ potting mix that
contains additional nutrients, in many cases eliminating the initial
need for fertilisers or nutrients.
