        ALAN BROWN APPOINTED CHAIRMAN OF
          AUSTRALIAN PATTERN COMMITTEE

The Australian Racing Board has appointed Mr Alan Brown as Chairman of the
Australian Pattern Committee.

The Australian Pattern Committee recommends to the Australian Racing Board which
Australian races are worthy of ‘Black Type’ status. Of great importance to race clubs,
breeders and owners, the listings of Group and Listed races are approved and published
by the ARB and are accepted by the International Cataloguing Standards Committee for
publication in ‘The Blue Book’, thereby achieving international recognition for
Australia’s best races.

The Committee meets twice yearly to consider, inter alia, applications for races to be
included and/or upgraded in the listings and to review the current classification of
existing Black Type races. Recommendations from the Pattern Committee are placed
before the Australian Racing Board for decision.

The Australian Pattern Committee is comprised of a delegate from the Principal Racing
Authority in each State, two nominees from Thoroughbred Breeder’s Australia, a
representative of Selling Agents, and two nominees from the major race clubs. The
Chairman is independent and non-voting.

Mr Brown is currently Chairman of Racing NSW, and has had a long and successful
involvement in the thoroughbred racing industry. His involvement in the administration
of racing goes back to 1983 when he was elected to the Board of the Sydney Turf Club.
Mr Brown held various executive positions with the Club, including Treasurer and
Vice-Chairperson before being appointed as Chairperson in 2005.
                                             -2-

Alan has had a considerable success as an owner, having raced a number of winning
horses including Party’s Pride which won 16 of 32 starts including several group and
listed races.

“The Australian Pattern Committee serves one of the most critical functions in
the national administration of racing, with the credibility of its decision-making
the main determinant of international recognition to Australia’s best racing. The
person who acts as its Chairman is a key appointment and I would find it
difficult think of anyone better qualified than Alan Brown to bring leadership,
integrity and vision to the job.” – Andrew Harding, Chief Executive
       Australian Racing Board
