- World Environment Day Celebrated
VSP joined the nation in celebrating “World Environment Day” today at a function held at Training &
Development Center. Sri P K Bishnoi, CMD,RINL/VSP was the Chief Guest and Sri NV Bhaskar Rao, Sr.
Environment Engineer, APPCB was the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Sri Bishnoi said that VSP is always in forefront in implementing several eco-
friendly projects to protect the environment in and around VSP and today, “VSP stood first among all
integrated steel plants in preserving the environment and greenery and considered as a ‘GREEN’S
PARADISE’ in the country. Sri Bishnoi said that the need of the hour is to focus on new technologies to
sustain the present trend in VSP. There is every need to intensify the campaign to further protect the
environment, he added. Sri NV Bhaskar Rao praised the initiatives of VSP management in protecting the
environment in and around the plant. He explained the global scenario of environmental protection
VSP management is currently implementing 11 more environmental projects a cost of Rs.260 crores and
already implemented 8 projects at a cost of around Rs 9 crores during 2006-07. The environmental projects
that were implemented are dry fog dust suppression in RMHP, 3 nos. continuous ambient air quality
monitoring stations, dry fly ash delivery system, electronic controllers in TPP etc.
Sri S Saran, GM (Energy & Safety) and Manager of Factory welcomed the gathering and gave a
presentation on “VSP’s initiative in combating global warming”. He said that VSP has reduced CO2
emission through many process improvements and reductions in the specific consumptions of coke, water,
energy, oil, refractories etc.
Sri PVS Prasada Rao, ED (Works), Sri Behera, Secretary, SEA, Sri Mantri Rajsekhar (INTUC), Sri
Venkateswarlu (CITU), Sri D Adinarayana (AITUC) spoke on the occasion. Later, the dignitaries
presented green Awards to mark the occasion. Sri PBC Rao, DGM (Environment Management Day)
