                               Field and Research Experience

2003 (July-December):          Lead researcher on the In-Country Monitoring and Evaluation of
                               the implementation of the United Nations General Assembly
                               Special Session on HIV/AIDS (UNGASS) Declaration of
                               Commitments. The research report is currently under review by the
                               International Council of AIDS Service Organizations.

2003 (January-April):          I actively participated in a Regional Planning Studio charged with
                               the responsibility of coming up with a Sustainable Economic
                               Development Plan for Msambweni Division, Kwale District.
                               The Kwale County Council is currently implementing the plan.

2002-2003:                     Personal Research- As part of my undergraduate course I
                               undertook a research on the Impact of Quarrying activities in
                               Kayole Estate and its Environs.

2002(September-October):        I was actively involved in a Rural Planning Studio whose goal was
                               to come up with A Sustainable Development Plan for Small
                               Scale Woodcarving Enterprises in Wamunyu Location,
                               Machakos District. The plan is currently under consideration by
                               the Ministry of Cooperative Development with an aim to
                               implement the recommendations there in.
2002 (January- April):        I actively participated in an Urban Planning Studio and helped
                              develop An Integrated Plan for the Sustainable Development of
                              Migori Municipality.

                                      Work Experience

August 2003 to date: Attached at Kenya AIDS NGOs Consortium. Duties and responsibilities
assigned include:
     Lead researcher on the in-country monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of the
       United Nations General Assembly Special Session on HIV/AIDS Declaration of
       Commitments. The research involves all aspects of how the civil society has been
       involved by the government in the development and implementation of policies and
       programmes on HIV/AIDS. The research is a project of International Council of AIDS
       Service Organizations (ICASO)
     Worked under the Child Centered Approaches to HIV/AIDS Project and actively
       participated in the development of information guides for children and young people.
     Project assistant in Child-to-Child and Regional Psychosocial Support Initiative Projects.
       These projects are aimed at increasing the ability of children to cope with the impacts of
       HIV/AIDS to enhance their positive development
     Project assistant in the HIV/AIDS development project. A project sponsored by UNDP to
       empower civil society organizations to increase their effectiveness in responding to the
       fight against HIV/AIDS
     Developing funding proposals, concept papers ,work plans and budgets for project
       activities
     Monitoring and evaluation of project activities
     Conducting needs assessments and baseline surveys
     Organizing and facilitating training workshops

May-July 2003: Attached at National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA). I was
involved in the following activities:
     I was a task force member in the committee charged with the responsibility of
        establishing criteria and standards on water quality. The standards are for use in the
        Compliance and Enforcement Department in environmental management.
     I was a committee member in the National Steering Committee for the preparation of
        year 2003 Successful World Environment Day celebrations.
     I served as a member of the task force charged with the responsibility of formulating the
        guidelines for National State of Environment report on Water and Public Health.
     I served as a research assistant in a fact-finding mission on illegal sand harvesting
        activities in Makueni District. The report is currently under review by the Authority for
        possible policy formulation in mining activities.
     I participated in the workshop convened to formulate a National Action Plan for the
        Integration of Environmental Education and Concerns into the Formal and Non Formal
        Education systems.
     Cost accounting of various successful workshops held in Nairobi
     Environmental data collection and analysis.
