THE ROLE OF PILATES IN THE M ANAGEMENT OF SPINAL DYSFUNCTION Presenter: Sonja Schulze – International lecturer, Australia Sonja is a physiotherapist who currently consults to the Australian Ballet Company and the Olympic gymnasts. Outline: This course explores the Principles of Pilates and how they relate to the patient with spinal dysfunction. Current research with the latest discoveries on spinal stabilisation training is incorporated. Selected matwork exercises will be taught, with back and neck rehabilitation options discussed. Adapting exercises for specific postural dyfunctions will be covered. This workshop will also include Pilates based moves on the exercise ball. It is entitled: “FUNCTIONAL SPINAL STABILITY – A PHYSIOTHERAPY HOME EXERCISE PROGRAMME” This video aims to: Improve awareness of neutral spinal posture; 6 Facilitate use of spinal stabilising muscles in a variety of postures; Demonstrate maintenance of neutral spine and postural muscle tone with the addition of load such as limb movements or weights. and DIANE LEE’S VIDEO IMAGERY FOR CORE STABILISATION This video is one on the assessment and treatment of pelvic impairment using core stabilisation.
