The Arts Council of Snohomish County is proud to present our Spring/Summer 2010 schedule. Exhibits are free and open
to the public. If you are interested in bringing a school group to one of our exhibits, please call 425-257-7372 to reserve a
time. Exhibits are at the Historic Monte Cristo, 1507 Wall Street, Everett. Hours: Monday-Friday, 10-5 and Sat. 11-4. If

                                      CONTINUING EDUCATION CLASSES
 Classes – Art Technique - The Arts Council is collaborating with the Everett School District to provide Art Technique
 Classes. Art Basics: Elements, Principles and the CBPAs consists of 4 evening sessions (Apr. 14, 21, 28, & May 5),
 5:45-8:45 p.m. A good foundation for understanding the Elements and Principles of Design is based on a solid
 sequential learning program. Focusing on the elementary CBPAs and working through the appropriate grade level
 building blocks to sound arts knowledge will be taught through discussion and hands on projects. Instructor: Ann
 Morgan; Location: CHS, Room #432; Cost: $70 workshop fee covers instructor, facility, supplies and instructional
 materials. Everett School District Clock Hours/SPU Credit/SPU Clock Hours available. See back of this newsletter for
 registration form.

 Community Art Classes – The Arts Council offers art classes year-round for kids, teens and adults. Check our
 website (www.artscouncilofsnoco.org) or call Michelle Denton (425-257-8380) for information.

                            2010 BLACK & WHITE PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST
 The Arts Council’s Black & White Photography Contest is open to Snohomish County High School students, grades
 9-12. Photographs will be judged in two categories, “traditional” analog prints and digital prints. The Photography
 Contest will be running concurrently with The Art of Asia exhibit, so utilization of that theme is an option. Judging
 will be based on creativity, composition, and presentation. All entries must be delivered by 5 p.m., Wednesday,
 April 14, 2010 to the Arts Council, 1507 Wall Street, Everett. Entry forms have been sent to all High School
 Art/Photography related teachers in Snohomish County or you can contact Nancy H. Bell, 425-257-7372, to have
 the information mailed.

                                                AEA 2010 FIELD TRIPS
                                            The Art of Asia Field Trips: May 10–21
 This exhibit will feature artist’s works inspired by the traditional and contemporary arts of Asia such as paintings,
 ceramics, printmaking, textiles, sculptures, weaving/basketry and more. Field Trips will last 75 minutes and include a
 docent led tour, artists in action, and a hands-on activity. Cost is $25.00 per class, up to 30 students. Appointment times
 are 9:15-10:30, 10:45-12:00, and 12:15-1:30. There are only a few spots left so do not hesitate; call today to make a
 reservation. The opening reception on May 6, 5–8 p.m., provides another great educational opportunity with
 entertainment as well as many of the participating artists in attendance. Otherwise, the exhibit runs through June 24 and
 would be a good option for after school extra credit.
                                           OUTREACH SUITCASES
The Arts Council of Snohomish County is proud to collaborate with the Seattle Art Museum for the eleventh year to
use their outreach suitcases. Outreach Suitcases contain art objects that students may handle and examine, a teaching
guide, slides, CDs or transparencies, and lesson plans. Slots still available are as follows:

                                     TEACHER WORKSHOP
                                        ART HOW2’S 2010:
                       ART BASICS: ELEMENTS, PRINCIPLES AND THE CBPAs
                                    Apr. 14, 21, 28, & May 5, 2010
The Arts Council of Snohomish County continues to collaborate with the Everett School District to provide Art
Technique Classes. This course consists of 4 evening sessions (Apr. 14, 21, 28, & May 5) taught by Ann Morgan,
Cascade High School. This class will provide a foundation for understanding the Elements and Principles of Design
and how they are embedded within the State Classroom Based Learning Assessments K-8. We will work through the
CBPA’s designed for fifth and eighth grade in groups, and deconstruct their learning requirements into classroom
practice, K-8.
                                                  Workshop Goals:
To give teachers direct hands-on experience doing the art projects that form the basis of the fifth and eighth grade
CBPA’s, which:
     Help teachers understand basic art elements and principles and how they apply in the CBPA’s.
     Help teachers to better understand how they can align the art curriculum at their grade level to support student
        achievement on the Art CBPA’s.
                                            Who is the workshop for?
Teachers, youth service providers, parent volunteers, art docents, and interested individuals who want to improve and
           increase their knowledge and skill and thereby feel more comfortable teaching and creating art.
