                                       Autumn 2008                                                                                      INSTRUCTION GUIDE


                                       Introduction
                                       The telephone in your room allows you to make free calls to any of your fellow students within the
                                       University of Edinburgh’s accommodation halls of residence on the Freewire Network, and to receive calls
                                       from and make calls to anywhere in the world.
                                       The system, branded as ‘Freewire Telephone’, is based on the latest VoIP technology provides the following
                                       benefits:
                                       •      free room to room calls
                                       •      open subscription to the service for friends and family
                                       •      free voicemail
                                       •      free calls within the Freewire Telephone network
                                       •      extremely low tariffs: (calls to many destinations cost less than 1p/minute)
                                       •      pre-payment using web-based account

                                       How to Make Prepaid Calls
                                       To make prepaid calls you must first Register and open a Web Account via the following online signup
                                       form:

                                       To Register:
                                       1.   Set your own Username and Password and click on Submit.
                                       2.   We will send you an email confirmation.
                                       3.   To activate your account, you will need to click the link embedded in this
                                            email.
                                       4.   You will then receive a second email that will include your : Username, Freewire ID and
                                            Freewire PIN (4 digits)

                                       To Top-up your account:
                                       1.   Login to My Account at www.freewiretv.com/myaccount by entering your username and password.
                                       2.   You can top-up your account by using your credit/debit card.

                                       To make a call:
                                       1.   Pick up the telephone receiver and dial the desired telephone number.
                                       2.   You will be prompted for your Freewire ID and then your PIN.

                                       3.   You will receive notification of your credit balance and the available duration of the call.

                                       4.   You will then be put on hold whilst your call is connected.

                                       Troubleshooting: I have haven't yet received an activation email. What can I do ?
                                       Your activation email may have been diverted to your Junk Mail folder. Please check this folder and change your Junk Mail settings to
                                       make sure that your future Freewire emails are received in your normal mailbox. If you would like us to resend your activation email,
                                       click on ‘Lost activation email ?’

                                       Voicemail
                                       Accessing your voicemail couldn’t be easier. Simply press the ‘Message’ button or dial ‘151’ and follow the message
                                       prompts by pressing: ‘1’ to listen to messages, ‘2’ to manage greetings, ‘3’ to manage your PIN, ‘4’ for help, and ‘0’ to
                                       return to the main menu.
