2008 Team Outlook
• • • Notre Dame heads into its 20th season of collegiate softball competition in the spring of 2008. The Irish have posted 19 consecutive winning seasons. The Irish will look to senior Katie Laing and juniors Brittney Bargar and Beth Northway, all past All-BIG EAST performers, for guidance this season. Notre Dame will play its home contests in the newly constructed Melissa Cook Stadium (capacity 850). Seven newcomers join the Irish roster for the 2008 season, including transfer catcher Alexia Clay, who was a key component of the Tennessee Lady Volunteers’ run to the 2007 World Series. Head coach Deanna Gumpf, who enters her seventh season at the helm of the Irish program, is currently ranked 17th among the NCAA winningest active coaches with a .687 winning percentage. Her record stands at 251 wins and 114 losses.
