Aftermarket Motorcycle Seats Written by Simon Harris: http://www.amotorcycleseat.com As a motorcycle enthusiast, I’ve decided to write a brief guide to Aftermarket Motorcycle Seats Many would agree that riding a motorcycle is a highly meditative and thought provoking activity. I do. Do you? With so much power under your seat it's not hard to figure out that riding can be a life changing process that tends to change your perspective on everything. One of the more interesting things that riders do is customize their bike. As if riding the motorcycle wasn't enough adrenalin rushing excitement, many riders actually spend more time on customizing their bike than they do actually riding it. The intellectual exercise of building an artistic bike that performs just a smidgen better than their buddy’s bike, and the competition it inspires, is highly addictive. Aftermarket motorcycle seats are one of the most customizable parts on the bike and for good reason. The seat is not just a place to rest your bum while you ride the lightening; it is a very functional part of the vehicle. Unlike driving a car, a motorcycle has many variables like vibration and no seat belt so without a good "gripping" seat you could literally fly off the bike! One of the main focuses of aftermarket motorcycle seat companies has been dissipating the vibration of the motor on the bike. The frame does absorb a certain amount but often with the consistency of the vibration, the rider ends up becoming plagued with numbness caused by long riding on an ill equipped (technologically) seat. Making the seat both gripping, but not too gripping (so you can adjust where you’re sitting on the seat at any time) is important as the only thing really keeping you on the bike is your clutching to the seat and handlebars! Many designs of aftermarket motorcycle seats are based on both safety and aesthetics. If your seat looks ridiculous your bike looks ridiculous. You want a cross between a great looking, bike enhancing, seat and one that is highly functional at making your ride fun and comfortable. Many new technologies have spawned from the advent of the third party seat companies. Seats today are a thousand times more comfortable than seats just made 10 years ago. You can also get your seat custom made based on a list of available features and options to choose from. The type of bike you’re putting the seat on is important in making the seat work for your bike. In other words you can't just put Yamaha aftermarket seats on a Honda and expect it to work. Even if you could get the seat to fit on the bike the very design of the chassis could get in the way of the seats function and capabilities to do what you need it to do. All bikes are designed differently, both from brands and individual models. Seats are very specific, but luckily if you have an aftermarket bike that's been customized completely (even the chassis) the seat customizing companies can still build you a seat that would make your bike glow!
