Exhibition Guide: A few things to know. The post of Exhibition Guide is offered as a zero hours permanent contract. Hours per month are as arranged with the Head of Department. No guarantee of hours is given. The standard guiding day is 7 hours long and includes a paid lunch break. The post is subject to a six month probationary period. Exhibition Guides are paid an hourly rate of £9.55. Initial training is six days – at the end of which the trainee should be competent with a small Globe tour. As the Globe is a working theatre, tours regularly take place during rehearsals (actors / musicians), maintenance and whilst workshops (school, voice, movement etc) are taking place on the stage, leading to route changes and the need for alterations of script to accommodate silence in some areas (or just the fact that you can’t be heard ). The Exhibition is only closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Saturdays and Sundays are normal days. The standard hours of operation for the Exhibition are 8am to 7pm. The dress code is smart casual in the colours of red, white and / or black. An Exhibition Guide should be identifiable by their demeanour and approachability. Extra payment is made for working Bank Holidays (as designated by the HOD). The Guides earn holiday as they work, at the same rate as permanent full time employees, but ratio’d down to hours. Holiday is taken as 7 hour days. Extra hours can be available for functions and events or covering Exhibition Assistant roles, following appropriate training.
