STUDIO BE ANNOUNCES PRODUCTION OF ROMEO & JULIET
Production set to open May 8, 2010
Chicago - Studio BE announced Monday its upcoming production of
Romeo & Juliet will open May on May 8, 2010 and run through May
23, 2010. Romeo & Juliet will be presented at the Studio BE
Performance Space located at 3110 N. Sheffield in Chicago. The
production is helmed by Tamara Drew and Mac Vaughey, both
principles at Studio BE, NFP. As usual for Studio BE, the
production will be performed entirely by students aged 10 to 18.
"One of our main objectives is to expose our learners to a large
variety theatrical works and performance styles," Drew said.
"After our success with RENT: School Edition, we were confident
our students could tackle Shakespeare. And what better
Shakespearean drama to do with teenagers than Romeo & Juliet.
It's a story about people their age and with their experiences.
I'm excited to see what our talented students are going to bring
to the table."
Studio BE produces professional caliber productions with student
casts in order to fulfill its mission to fully immerse students
in high-energy, transformative experiences that
foster creativity, self esteem, ambition, self discovery and
excellence in the performing arts. By allowing students to work
with Chicago theatre professionals, Studio BE provides its
students with a higher-quality educational experience, allowing
students to more fully understand the whole process or producing
a show in a storefront Chicago theatre.

The production will feature Studio BE aesthetic staples
including, dance, stage combat, spectacle arts and video-graphic
elements. The design team, headed by Vaughey, is working to
craft a significantly stylized production to enhance the
artistic vision of the piece.
"We're trying to craft a production aesthetic that works to
visually symbolize the struggle happening on stage," Vaughey
said. "This is going to be a very visually stunning piece that
will work well with the beauty of Shakespeare's poetry."
Performance dates are: May 8, 9, 12, 14, 15, 16, 19, 21, 22 and
23.
