Connecting to Library Resources from Off Campus The Libraries have established a Proxy Server, allowing you the use of UW licensed online journals, textbooks and other resources regardless of your location or Internet connection. Use the Proxy Server if you have an account with an Internet Service Provider, a fast connection from home (DSL line, cable modem), or are outside Western Washington. Another option for connecting to library resources is to dial in to the UW modems, which provide free Internet access at 56kbps from many Western Washington communities. Use outside the local dialing areas requires a longdistance phone connection. For help in determining which option works best for you, go to Connecting to UW Online Restricted Resources at: http://healthlinks.washington.edu/howto/connect/ Library Card and PIN Your HuskyCard serves as your library card. Activate your library account and obtain a Personal Identification Number (PIN) by stopping by or phoning the HSL Information Desk at (206) 543-3390, or the Social Work Library (SWL) at (206) 685-2180, or use the web forms on the Connecting to UW Online Restricted Resources page. Resources Electronic Resources Links to electronic resources are centralized on the HealthLinks web site. Nearly 3,000 electronic journals are available, as well as key databases and textbooks including PubMed, PsycINFO, Sociological Abstracts, CINAHL, MD Consult, Micromedex, Harrison’s, and UpToDate. http://healthlinks.washington.edu/ HealthLinks The Health Sciences Libraries homepage on HealthLinks is your portal to a wealth of information resources and library services. http://healthlinks.washington.edu/hsl/ Reserves Course materials required for classes are placed on self-service reserve shelves or are available electronically. These materials include books, journal articles, videos and software. Access to information about reserve materials is available via the UW Libraries Catalog or from HealthLinks. http://healthlinks.washington.edu/reserves Student Toolkit From HealthLinks, link to the Student Toolkit to find general information on courses, registration, financial aid, health sciences schools and departments, computing, the bookstore, and other student information. http://healthlinks.washington.edu/student Print Resources The Health Sciences Library and Information Center serves as the Regional Medical Library for five states and has an extensive collection.
