CHAMPIONSHIPS 2008 ACC CyCling ChAmpionships & Winston sAlem DoWntoWn Criterium meDiA guiDe April 19–20, 2008 Hosted by Wake Forest University 2008-712 2008 ACC CyCling ChAmpionships & Winston sAlem DoWntoWn Criterium CHAMPIONSHIPS The beginning of a new season is always rife with excitement. For some, it means lining up with a new team, new sponsors, new kits, or new goals. For others, it’s a chance to build upon the previous season’s achievements, to reconnect with returning team mates, or to reminisce about old rivals and classic moments from last year’s races. Regardless, everyone brings a fresh sense of camaraderie and a renewed energy to the starting line. But before the season even begins— it seems— it inevitably nears to an end. Nostalgia fills each training ride with memories of wins, near crashes, and glorious break-aways. The hills feel like flats, the flats feel like descents, and you savor every exhilarating moment. At some point, you realize that there is only ONE final race weekend remaining. ONE more weekend to stomp on the pedals. ONE last opportunity to make a name for yourself and for your team. Do you have what it takes to be an ACC CYCLING CHAMPION? The Wake Forest University Cycling Team would like to welcome everyone to the 2008 ACC Cycling Championships. For the Wake Forest University Cycling Team, being able to host the last race of the season is a new and exciting experience. With each successive championship weekend, we aim to build the program by adding new events, new technologies, and by pushing the limits of what was previously thought possible. We hope that you enjoy yourself and, most importantly, take away a sense that you have participated in something spectacular, something memorable, and something above and beyond … the “Championship Experience.” Enclosed you will find a schedule of events, directions, and contact information. Please use this guide to answer all of your questions. However, if your questions are not fully answered, please feel free to shoot me an e-mail at QuadJRanch@aol.com. Together for Kids (www.togetherforkids.org) is a national alliance of children’s hospitals and other hospitals serving children, dedicated to building a healthier future for America’s kids. The organization provides an urgently needed national fundraising mechanism for its member hospitals, helping them care for seriously ill children and tackle the toughest health issues facing all kids, with a focus on childhood obesity and injury prevention. America’s children are facing increasing challenges to their health and well-being, ranging from the growing numbers of uninsured families to the steadily climbing statistics on childhood obesity. At the same time, funding for children’s healthcare from public and private payers is steadily shrinking. In the past, charitable organizations have played a valuable role in generating financial support for children’s hospitals, yet there remained an unmet need among many children’s hospitals. A significant gap existed in this support system, as children’s hospitals around the country, in both small communities and major metropolitan areas, had no access to a national fundraising mechanism. In answer to this need, and the needs of children facing serious health issues, Together for Kids was founded. As a new kind of inclusive fundraising organization, Together for Kids seeks to provide children’s hospitals throughout the country with the resources they need to treat children affected by serious illness or injury, as well as to tackle today’s toughest pediatric health issues. Together for Kids ensures that hospitals committed to the health and wellness of children can have access to funds for advanced medical technology, expert medical staff, up-to-date treatment options, community education and advocacy programs, updated facilities and the latest insights in medical research. Established in 2006, Together for Kids is a national, not-for-profit alliance made up of 34 children’s hospitals and hospital systems, representing 53 individual facilities in 47 U.S. cities, all dedicated to building a healthier future for America’s children. 1 2008-915 2008 ACC CyCling ChAmpionships & Winston sAlem DoWntoWn Criterium Winston sAlem DoWntoWn Criterium Registration Register at http://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=6153 Online registration closes April 17th.
