Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church
Baptism Guidelines
Feibruary 1, 2009

We welcome children celebrating baptism. If you are a member of the parish of Our
Lady of the Snows, please contact the office regarding available dates and times.

For Out of Parish Baptisms we have the following guidelines:

Parents should be active practicing Catholics registered in a parish. We will require a
letter from your home parish confirming this information.

Parents must have completed baptism preparation prior to the baptism. We will require a
letter from your home parish confirmation this information.

At least one godparent should be an active, fully initiated, practicing catholic.

At this time we have no requirement for godparents to have completed baptism
preparation, but it is highly recommended.

No baptisms will be scheduled during the seasons of Advent or Lent.

Families are welcome to bring a priest or deacon to perform the baptism. This should be
arranged at least 4 months in advance to allow for our diocesan processes for visiting
clergy to be completed. No exceptions.

Our Lady of the Snows encourages families to make a financial gift for the ongoing
support of our church. Couples being married at our church are asked to give $200 in
addition to the usage fee for the church. 10% of what you are spending for the baptism
celebration is also a possible guideline.

Baptisms are usually scheduled for Saturdays between 10 AM and 3 PM, Sundays
following our 10:30 AM Mass, or weekdays following morning Mass.

For infants and children ages 0 – 6 months, baptisms can be done by pouring of water
over the forehead or immersion.

For children over 6 months of age, water over the forehead is the preferred method.

Baptisms requested at Easter will be done at the Vigil Mass on Saturday evening.
