Or people likely to kill themselves are likely to opt for morbid lifestyle accessories.

Re: Changing Careers... It's very difficult for people who know someone who kills himself to figure out why. Generally, it's not because life is too hard, or things went wrong, because life is hard for everyone sometimes (see REM for details) and things go wrong for everyone. Some people are just wired that way. If they're lucky, they'll never hit the low point which sends them over the edge. Teenagers seem to be particularly vulnerable. The tragedy of many teenage suicides is that they are over matters that would be almost forgotten a year or two later.

I have my own theory re teenage suicides. I think that todays world is so immediate and young people in particular want everything now, regardless of debt or anything else. And because everything is attainable, disappointment can be near overwhelming. An example from a few years ago here, a young fellow was to meet his pals in one of the bars as they were all heading to Portrush. When he got there, his mates had gone on without him. He went home and hung himself! Then there is the "attraction" of all the attention young suicides get. In recent years here, in County Derry, there has been a near epidemic of teenage suicides. I think that if a teenager is feeling lost or depressed or whatever, and they see a friend die and witness the outpouring of grief and see how much that friend appeared to have been loved, it's a temptation to do the same thing so that they to will get the huge wake and funeral etc. Not stopping to think of course, that they won't be around to see it for themselves! And my personal belief about it is that they have an "emptiness" within themselves to begin with, and that emptiness is a lack of spirituality and any kind of sense of a loving God! That is MY personal belief and I'm not trying to start another waste of time thread about the existence or non−existence of God!
I think its also a time in life when the long−term implications of their decisions is (over)stressed. You know the sort of thing 'if you don't get straight 'A's, you'll never get to college and then where will you be, just another (insert inappropriate title). Then, they fail a test.
