Asset Types and Asset Codes
for
Information Technology Inventory Collection via ISIS
The Information Services Inventory System (ISIS) database is structured into three levels; namely Asset Group, Asset Type and Asset Code. There are currently six Asset Groups within the IT Inventory application; namely, End User Device, Mainframe, Minicomputer, Server, Software and Telecommunications. Each Asset Group supports distinctly different Asset Types. For instance, within the Telecommunications Group there are asset types dealing with security such as Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) as well as Voice Equipment such as Call Center Systems and Tele-management Systems. In addition, Voice Equipment End User Devices is a separate asset type including such devices as Fax, Radio, and Phones while the Voice Power Equipment asset type covers such items as Universal Power Supplies (UPS) and Generators, all under Telecommunications Asset Group. Within each Asset Type, specific Asset Codes associated with products in use within Arizona agencies are identified. If an agency is using a new product, a phone call to GITA will update the Asset Code and add a new manufacturer, if needed. Use of OTHER is highly discouraged as it prevents meaningful searches across the database. Keep in mind that spelling, capitalization and blank spaces must be exact for ISIS to accept the item. Each of the currently supported Asset Types is listed below under the appropriate Asset Group. It is also possible that additional asset codes have been added during the update season, so one can check on a particular product by trying to add an item manually. In addition, there is a cross-index of Software products asset codes by Asset type to help in trying to classify an item. A separate listing of manufacturers is also available on the web site.
Asset Group 1 - End user devices
It is presumed that each PC comes with a monitor, keyboard and mouse so only the PC itself is required for the database entry. Printers, scanners, plotters, or storage that might be attached directly to the PCs are of interest; however, other peripherals need not be reported at this time. End user devices currently include the following asset types:

Asset Groups 2 through 4 - Mainframes, Minicomputers, and Servers
At this time, GITA does not require data about additional hardware attached to devices such as mainframes, minicomputers or servers. It is assumed that such devices have DASD, tape drives, and other associated peripheral equipment. Agencies do not have to input additional hardware information into the system unless it is of benefit to them. This requirement may change in future years; however, the intent is to expand the areas of newest technology and move the state agencies away from the older equipment.

Software may be reported in aggregate, although the ISIS application is also designed to allow individual licenses to be maintained. Models and Software Versions Particular hardware models or software versions are often included in the Asset Code field and are built into the standard naming conventions used in the ISIS application drop-down lists. Please refer to the
FY08 IT Inventory Manufacturer Names document on the website for a complete listing and exact spelling
of current manufacturers, when automatically uploading data into ISIS. Both the Model and Version fields are provided in the ISIS application for agencies’ use, but are not required fields.
