Once inside the building ,police officers and their trained dogs conducted a methodical inspection of hallways, lockers, restrooms and locker room areas. Students and staff were in a lockdown practice drill and no student was ever in direct contact with a dog or handler. The search was completed in approximately twenty minutes. During the search, one of the dogs ‘hit’ on a locker, but after thorough inspection nothing was found in it. The dog handler informed administration that false hits like this are not uncommon. We are pleased to report that the dogs detected nothing and that the building was clear. This search was not in reaction to any information or specific concern that we have regarding the possibility of drugs within our school; rather, it is part of our overall system‐ wide strategy to help ensure that we are providing a safe and drug free learning environment for all students. Feel free to contact me should you have any questions. Sincerely, Margaret Szostak OUR MISSION: To ensure student achievement through excellence in teaching and learning.
