It’s at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville, KY on February 27-28, 2010. Do you have to qualify to attend the NCA High School Open National Championship? No, the NCA High School Open National Championship is open to all school and recreation teams. Can we compete at both the NCA Senior and Junior High School National Championship and the NCA High School Open National Championship? Yes. Since there is no qualification for Open Nationals, you can compete in any other competition of the season without consequence at this event. Is there a Resident Package available? No, but we do offer discounted hotel packages. More information can be found regarding hotel packages on our website, NCA.varsity.com. Are noise makers allowed? No. Noise makers are not allowed by participants or spectators. Are the score sheets and guidelines the same for Performance and Game Time Divisions? No. There are different score sheets and guidelines. Be sure and view the score sheets and guidelines on our website at NCA.varsity.com. Can you perform with different participant numbers in a Performance and Game Time Division? Yes. Example: If you have your Varsity team (12 members) compete in a Performance Division and wish to add your JV team (12 members) to compete in a Game Time Division, you simply register 24 for the Game Time Category, and 12 for the Performance Division. Do I have to compete in BOTH Game Time and Performance Divisions? No. You can choose to compete in Performance or Game Time, or both. Discounts are available when your team registers for more than one performance. Are there Prelims and Finals in all Divisions? No. Game Time will be a “Finals Only”, one day competition taking place on Day 1. Performance Divisions will have Prelims (Day 1) and Finals (Day 2). All teams in the Performance Divisions make Finals. Twenty percent (20%) of your Day 1 score and eighty percent (80%) of your Day 2 score will count towards your final score. What are the Game Time Divisions? There are three Game Time Divisions: High School, Junior High/Middle School and Recreation. What are the Game Time Categories? For School Divisions (High School and Junior High / Middle School), there are three Game Time Categories: Fight Song, Sideline Cheerleading and Time-Out Dance. Only one Category, Sideline Cheerleading, is available for the Recreation Division. Can multiple teams from my school combine to compete in the Game Time Categories? Yes. There is no limit to the number of participants that can compete from one school in Game Time. So, combine your Varsity, J.V., and Dance Team if you want to! You could also choose to let them compete against each other. Please keep in mind that to win the Game Time National Championship, the scores from separate team names (even if from the same school) cannot be combined. Example: You enter as “School Name Varsity” and compete in Sideline Cheerleading and Time-Out Dance and you also enter a different team as “School Name JV” in Sideline Cheerleading and Time-Out Dance – even though the teams are from the same school, you cannot combine scores from team “A” and “B” to win a National Title. If team “A” and “B” combine performers in the Fight Song Category that routine would not count towards their top two scores. Is music allowed in the Sideline Cheerleading Category? No music may be used during the performance. A Live drummer (or drum line) and/or drum track is allowed. Are there boundary violations for the Game Time Division Categories? There are no boundary violations for the Game Time Division Categories; however, all skills must be performed on the performance mat. How should I enter the performance area for each of the Game Time Division Categories? For Time-Out Dance and Fight Song categories, no organized entrance is allowed. For the Sideline Cheerleading Category, an entrance is allowed but it will count towards your time limit. For the Sideline Cheerleading Category, teams may line up on any side of the mat. Time will start on the first organized movement or sound or if an individual cheerleader steps on the mat. Will there be a National Championship title awarded in each Game Time Category? No. Game Time National Champions are the all-around best in the Game Time Categories. Each Category will award a first place. The National Champion is determined by averaging each team’s top two scores (in any of the three categories.) So, if you are going to enter in one category, you should enter in 2 or all 3 to have a shot at a Game Time National Championship! Each additional category is only $10.00 per performer. (See the Next Question for further details.) So, HOW do you earn a Game Time National Champion Title? To be eligible to win the NCA Game Time National Championship title, teams must compete in at least two of the Game Time Categories offered and their final ranking must be in the top 3 in at least one of the Categories (Fight Song, Sideline Cheerleading, Time-Out Dance). Each team meeting the above criteria will have their top two (2) Category scores averaged. The top average will be awarded the National Championship. There will be ONLY two (2) Game Time National Champions named at Open Nationals; one in the High School Division and one in the Junior High/ Middle School Division. What type of awards are given for the Game Time categories and also to the Game Time National Champions? Each team in a Category wins an NCA Game Time Megaphone award. National Champion teams win a trophy and banner. Each individual on the National Champion team wins a National Champion jacket!
