Example of an Improvement Plan in a Bromley Home
In 2005 a Bromley home was inspected by CSCI and found not to be meeting the National Minimum
Standards in any of the 7 Outcomes.
Choice of Home
Health and Personal Care
Daily Life and Social Activities
Complaints and Protection
Environment
Staffing
Management and Administration
At the end of this inspection CSCI identified the following areas required immediate action:
a. Privacy, dignity and respect issues were poorly addressed
b. Supporting documentation such as care plans and risk assessments were poorly completed
and not reflective of needs
c. Medication procedures and record keeping required further input
d. Medication administration was not sufficiently robust to ensure safety of residents
This resulted in 10 statutory requirements being issued and 1 good practice recommendation.
The home had regular visits from CSCI, LBB contracts team and the adult protection co-ordinator over
the next few months. Work focussed on the home’s improvement plan and included:
Observing the changes to the environment
Advice on information recording and systems for reporting vulnerable adult concerns
Communication with Care Management Teams
A follow up unannounced inspection in August of the 2005 noted that action had been taken to:
a. Improve medication practice and record keeping
b. Change household routines to make them more resident focussed
c. Update the physical environment
Further work was still required to meet the 6 statutory requirements (3 from previous inspection and 3
new). This work was undertaken with input from CSCI, LBB contracts team and the adult protection co-
ordinator
By the 2007 inspection these improvements had continued with CSCI noting that it is now meeting all
but the environment outcome; where minor shortfalls relating to a bathroom being out of order were
identified.
