Used to gauge future success or failure – “What is the current state of affairs?” e.g. 2006/2007 PAT results) The current baseline for ESL Acceptable Standard PAT results is 82.3%. Baseline Analysis/Trends – 1: (Why are 2007 – 2008 results the way they are? Conditions that may be affecting your group’s ability to reach goals and outcomes – Challenges identified, external factors affecting outcome achievement – Explanation of current state of data, historical factors – analysis/identification of root cause) Our ESL population continues to grow, consisting primarily of students of refugee status from war-torn countries who have minimal or no formal schooling, despite this we are 8% above the provincial average. Strategies for 2009 - 2010 : (Actions taken to achieve desired outcomes in terms of instruction – Answers the question, “What do we need to do to achieve this outcome?”) – Should include information on how this will be incorporated in to Teacher Professional Growth Plans (TPGP – a Board requirement now) Build background knowledge and support language development by relating content to meaningful, real life experiences using literature, graphic organizers, research, relevant media and cultural exploration. Assessment of strategies – 1: (What methods [interim measures] will be used to analyze the effectiveness of the strategy?) Provincial Achievement Test results and the Language Arts Mid-Term Exams.
