How Do You Spot
A Doer?
NORTH TEXAS BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL WOMEN’S LEAGUE
Pathfinder
.The common phrase, “What you see is what you
get” is the correct response to the question,
“How do you spot a doer?” One can see three
attributes of a doer which are determination,
innovation, and a proven ability to get things
done. The North Texas Business & Professional
Women’s League, Inc as doers are moving
targets…rolling stones that are determined,
innovative and able to get things done in pursuit
of the NANBPWC, Inc. and local club’s missions. League Ladies community
activities and goal completions documents such as the determination of
several members who became volunteer deputies to registrar voters and
stepping up to serve others in the community through donations to support a
local sister club and participation in the Dallas Komen Race for the Cure.
Members continue to create ways to touch lives as Lady Gossip who has
partnered with others to assistant ex-offenders of the New Beginning
Society and Lady Wilson who is the planner and dream keeper for the
League’s signature program for the 2009 Kufika! The team spirit of
member’s willingness and cooperation to actively sustain HEED Programs
through their committee work is the model professional practice to get the
business of the club done. Thus, members of The North Texas Business &
Professional Women’s League, Inc are doers not spectators. And for this I
am grateful.
Sisterly yours,
Marilyn G. Calhoun, President

What is Parliamentary Procedure?
Parliamentary procedure refers to the rules of democracy—that is, the commonly accepted way in which a group of
people come together, present and discuss possible courses of action, and make decisions. Fundamentally,
parliamentary procedure defines how groups of people, no matter how formal or informal, can most effectively meet
and make decisions in a fair, consistent manner—and make good use of everyone's time. Even a basic background in
parliamentary principles can help any organization hold more efficient meetings.

1. Rice for Motherland. Rice is a staple dish throughout most countries in Africa. A 60-pound bag of rice can feed
one family in a compound of 30 persons, for one month. Rice is distributed to many villages in African nations. A
60-lb bag of rice costs $33.00.
2. Fruit Trees for Africa. The Youth Clubs, under the leadership of Terri O’Neal Ford, can have a fruit tree planted in
Africa for $10 each. These trees will be planted on or near a school compound and labeled with the name of the
club and/or the donor(s).
3. Project CHILD. Clubs can initiate a project that involves any aspect of Project CHILD. Letters in CHILD show wor-
thy activities.

a needed child.
4. Sponsorship Program: There are bright, talented and gifted children in Africa. In Ghana, the public school system
ends at 9th grade in their junior secondary school. There is an admission process and fee to attend all high schools
in Ghana. The tuition varies slightly from school to school. However, we have interviewed and have selected stu-
dents who plan to attend boarding school. Their entrance grades must be a “B” or better average. The cost for
one student, for one year, in a boarding school is $400. This includes tuition, uniforms, accommodations, meals,
PTA dues and books. Each child selected must have an email address to communicate with the donors about their
school life and grades. The students are aware that the donor is only responsible for tuition and all other expenses
are to be paid for by their parents. If you are interested, make a check payable to International Affairs Division.
High school education is a 3-year program; therefore the sponsorship commitment is for three years.
5. M-BAG Books for Africa: The United States Postal Service is offering a special rate for Books and Publishers’
periodicals to any country in Africa. The weight of a box with books not exceeding 11 pounds costs $11.00. Each
additional pound of books costs $1.00. The weight limit of a parcel is 66 pounds. The Shipment of Books only is
duty Free. Please note that the package must contain only books or periodicals. If you include any other item be-
yond books and a cover letter, the rates will be much higher. Please address your book parcel to the Director,
whose name is below and notate: NANBPWC BOOKS:

6. Mosquito Nets for Africa: Malaria kills more than one million children a year. For just $10.00 we ca buy an insecti-
cide-treated bed net for children to sleep under. These nets can keep a family safe for up to four years. Mosquito
Nests are a cost effective solution that can prevent Malaria deaths. Make checks payable to the International Af-
