SAC City DAC Parent and CommunitySchool Consolidation Survey Powered By Docstoc
					1. SCUSD COMMUNITY QUESTIONNAIRE
This survey asks questions about how you and your family currently view the SCUSD School System. The purpose of this survey is to identify your priorities and preferences for changes that might occur at your School because of the SCUSD School Consolidation plan. Many of the questions in this current survey, such as those about your School's size or location, reflect specific details of actual proposals made at SCUSD Facility Committee meetings over the past several months. Because we value everyone’s opinion and because changes are likely to affect our schools and community, we ask that you take the time to fill out the survey. We feel that a survey is necessary in order to accurately reflect the current views of the SCUSD community, including those families that joined the school in September. We believe that the information gathered by this survey will help the SCUSD community to participate more effectively in the ongoing process of school consolidation. This information may also be helpful to others involved in the ongoing reform process.

Thank you for your time, please feel free to contact any of us if you have any questions. SCUSD District Advisor Council, parentideas@sacdac.org

8. YOUR PREFERENCES FOR SCUSD GROWTH

Page 7

20. The following questions ask about your preferences regarding an increase in the number of students at your School. The various increases described below will impact both district budgetary concerns and ethnic and economic diversity. Maximum class size is defined as 20 students per class in grades K to 3, and 32 students per class in grades 4 to 12. Currently SCUSD has an average of 19-20 students per class in grades K to 3 and grades 4-12 average class size is 23-27. District average class size for 2007-2008 was 24.1 for all grades. Using a scale of 1 to 5, where 1 is strongly oppose and 5 is strongly support, what is your level of support for increasing the number of students?
Strongly Oppose Maintain current size (~340 students) Grow to maximum class size without adding any classrooms (+80 students by filling classroom to maximum, ~420 students) Increase by 1 classroom of 20 students per class at each mixed grade level (i.e. add 5 classes = +100 students, ~440 students) Increase by 1 classroom of maximum size at each mixed grade level (i.e. add +180 students, ~520 students) Increase by 1 classroom of maximum size at each mixed grade level and add a small program such as one of SCUSD’s bilingual programs (i.e. add +280 students,~620 students) Increase size gradually over 9 years by adding 1 classroom per year starting with kindergarten class (adding students yearly to a maximum size of 440 students) Oppose Neither Oppose or Support Support Strongly Support

9. YOUR SUPPORT FOR VARIOUS GENERAL CONSOLIDATION OPTIONS

Page 8

21. The following questions ask about your opinion regarding various general consolidation possibilities. A closure involves closing a school, the choice of a new school for those children, and the reassignment of administration and staff for the closed school. A merger involves the joining of two separate programs/schools with different students, teachers and administrators into a single school with a common student body, curriculum, teachers and administration. A merger would involve at least some change in the leadership, teaching staff, curriculum, and/or size. Using a scale of 1 to 5,where 1 is strongly opposed and 5 is strongly support, how likely are you to support one of the following options?
