2003-03-04 To: Director, Company X Subject: Business Forms Management Association (BFMA) 34th International Symposium on Forms and Information Systems Denver, Colorado May 18-22-2003 I am writing to request your approval for my attendance at the above-mentioned symposium. As you know, Company X continues to be mandated by Treasury Board for the standardization of forms for government-wide use. Also, there is a strong demand within federal government departments to continue automating forms, an initiative in which Company X is playing a leading role not only in the Federal Government but also with our new initiative on the standardization of forms management, on a national basis. Continuing and emerging initiatives supporting government requirements include development of information systems and applications for e-procurement and egovernment generally as demonstrated by the EDAT (Electronic Forms Domain Architecture Team) recommendations. The BFMA Symposium provides an effective and cost-efficient opportunity to obtain and maintain the knowledge and tools needed by Company X to continue to lead in the field of Eforms and information management. Background The BFMA International 34th annual International Symposium on Forms and Information Systems is the industries premier educational event for the forms, (paper or electronic), e-commerce, systems and workflow industry and organizational structures and strategies. As in previous years, the seminars at the BFMA International Symposiums are "kinetic or interactive", cover a wide range of forms-related issues and represent a unique opportunity for education, training and to meet with key government and private sector players as well as Forms Management people from around the world. This years symposium offers 72 educational sessions keynotes, Special Interest Groups (SIG groups), case studies, internet and intranet courses and special networking events, and formal presentations by experts who will address all the contemporary business forms issues of the day which include of prime importance, the interoperability of eforms software. A significant business accomplishment by Company X this past year has been it's enhancement of it's national presence with the development and operation of a New Company X Committee on the Standardization of Forms Management for Canada. This committee is made up of representatives from jurisdictions including provincial, territorial, municipal, police, hospitals, financial institutions, utilities and other groups from all across Canada. This Committee clearly puts Company X in a position as a National Leader in the Forms Management Discipline. In addition, consideration is being given to the establishment of a central authority for Forms Management in the Federal Government of Canada, (an EDAT) recommendation, and there is the possibility that Company X will be tasked and resourced to take on this responsibility, should Company X choose to accept it. These initiatives and the augmentation of our national presence makes it imperative that Company X continue to keep it's skill set and knowledge base in Forms Management current. The presence of Company X at this symposium is essential to continue to be seen as a major leader in the field of Forms Management. It should be noted that there are no comparable training opportunities in Canada affording us the same opportunity as provided by this single symposium. Further, as the Secretary of the Company X Committee on the Standardization of Forms, I continue to be the supplier of information and guidance to the Committee membership on all aspects of Forms Management particularly in the area of electronic forms. Therefore sessions at this Symposium would be of great value in keeping my knowledge current in the electronic forms world, and in support of my position as Supply Specialist (Forms) and continued enhancement of the presence of Company X on a national basis in this discipline. Cost Registration before April 5th 2003 for BFMA Member: (Includes 1 breakfast, 4 lunches and 1 dinner) Accommodation: Travel to Denver, Colorado: Meals and Incidentals: Respectfully Submitted, Employee, Company X Standards Specialist (Forms) $989 US. $550US. $450 Cdn. $230 US.
