Frommer’s® Portable Turks & Caicos Author Says
Hurry Up and Book Your Winter Getaway!

A Gallup poll in the late 1990s found that the small Caribbean island nation of the Turks & Caicos had
the least name recognition in the world. How times have changed: Not only is it one of the hottest new
destinations in the Caribbean right now, but more than 60% of its visitors return over and over again
(according to the Turks & Caicos Tourist Board). Responding to this trend, Frommer’s is releasing the
first edition of Frommer’s Portable Turks & Caicos (Wiley; October 2006; 154 pages) – the only guide
to the islands by a major North American publisher.

Alexis Lipsitz Flippin, author of the newly published guide, says these beautiful islands are the ideal place
to unwind, relax and escape the hustle-bustle of life.

According to Flippin: ―If you dream of lying on a pristine parcel of sugary sand encircled by mesmerizing
aquamarine seas, or want nothing more than to spend an afternoon happily bubbling about a living,
breathing coral reef with mask and snorkel, book a trip now.‖

For those planning a trip to the Turks & Caicos and can’t decide where to stay, Flippin offers the
following recommendations for every type of traveler:

 Best Resort for Families: Beaches Turks & Caicos (Grace Bay, Providenciales). What could be
more thrilling than hanging with Elmo and friends after a day at the beach? A Sesame Camp is
available for kids five and under, and a Pirates Island Kids Club camp has daily activities for children
six to 12. And it not only has kid-themed menus, it has kid-themed restaurants.

 Best Resort for Singles: Club Med Turkoise (Grace Bay, Providenciales). This resort may not be as
frenetically party-hearty as others in the Club Med chain (you can’t help but catch the laidback Turks
& Caicos vibe), but you can still hit the in-house dance club from 11:30 p.m. into the wee hours
    nightly.

 Best Beachfront Resort on a Budget: Sibonné (Grace Bay, Providenciales). The amenities are few,
but the accommodations are perfectly comfortable, the courtyards charming, and the prices
reasonable—and it’s all set on the gorgeous sands of Grace Bay beach.

                                              -- MORE --
 Best Resort for a Spa Getaway: [3-way tie] Parrot Cay (Parrot Cay), the Palms (Grace Bay,
Providenciales), or Point Grace (Grace Bay, Providenciales). The Turks & Caicos islands have
become a first-class spa getaway, and each of these resorts offers a truly memorable destination spa
experience. At Parrot Cay, the COMO Shambhala holistic spa features Eastern-influenced healing
and rejuvenating therapies applied by Balinese healers. At the Palms, massages are offered in white
tented cabanas limned by a reflecting pool. The Thalasso Spa at Point Grace treatments use sea mud
    and seaweed, among other delicacies.

 Best Resort Room Amenities: Amanyara (Northwest Point, Providenciales). You’ll want for nothing
in your private teakwood pavilion, filled with high-tech goodies like a Bose sound system and a
flatscreen TV, a ―waterfall‖ shower, Kiehl’s toiletries, and even gourmet snacks and sweets.

 Best Resort to Hobnob with Celebrities: Parrot Cay (Parrot Cay). They’re here, alright, relaxing on
white-cushioned divans or perfectly lit by tiki torches in the evening at the poolside restaurant.

 Best Resort to Play Pampered Castaway: Meridan Club (Pine Cay) or Windmills Plantation (Salt
Cay). You really get away from it all in style at these two island resorts, both with world-class
beaches you have practically all to yourself.

 Best Resort Restaurant and Lounge: Grace Bay Club (Grace Bay, Providenciales). This is Turks &
Caicos dining at its peak: You’ll be under the stars, on a beachside deck lit by torches, and dining on
perfectly cooked seafood. And the outdoor lounge, with glowing firepit and comfy cushions, is the
    spot for a sunset cocktail.

 Best Resort Shopping: The Palms (Grace Bay, Providenciales). The five shops on Palm Place offer
delicious resort wear, elegant gifts, and high-end snacks.

 Best Resort for Scuba Diving Packages: Bohio Dive Resort (Pillory Beach, Grand Turk). This
resort has it all for the diver: an in-house dive operation, complete with on-site PADI instructors and
divemasters—not to mention big, comfortable rooms and a fine restaurant.
