Kids Say the Darndest Things During the Pet Talk feature on a recent JC Today Show, a student was asked if his pet was a boy or a girl. The student answered, "He's a girl." Information Swap School Presidential Election announced. On Friday, all Glenville and JC students and staff voted for the next U.S. President. We used paper ballots with pictures of both the Republican and Democratic teams. The children and the staff simply checked the box next to the picture of their choice. We are in the process of tabulating the votes and we will announce the winner of the JC presidential election on Monday, Nov. 3rd, during the JC Today Show. This election could be a great topic for discussion with your children this weekend. School will be closed on Election Day, Tuesday, 11/4. School will reopen at the regular time on Wednesday, November 5th. Parents, remember to exercise your right to vote. Green and White Day is next Friday, November, 7th. Please remember to have your children wear something green and white to show their school spirit. The Writers' Festival will be held next week. Our students will be working with acclaimed authors to hone their creative writing skills. Dr. Donato D'Albis will meet with grades 3-5 during the week of November 3rd, and Donald Crews will met with K-2 students on 11/6. GOOD BYE, MR. WACHOWSKI!!! Once again we congratulate Ed Wachowski on his appointment as assistant principal in Norwalk. We will miss you very much. FROM YOUR JCPTA Dear all, Thank you to Janice Hone and Paula Barber and their committee for the incredible Halloween Party! We know how hard they all worked getting ready for the ghoulish evening and want them to know how grateful we are. Hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween and have a fun night Trick or Treating! We look forward to seeing all of you at the Retro Prom next weekend. Tori Aiello and her committee have worked so hard to bring this fabulous event to your door - come out and enjoy a night with friends and relive some old memories!!! Throw on an old dress or tux and dance the night away, fun will be had by all! - Jeanie and Trisha Writer’s Festival is coming up!! During the week of November 3rd through 7th our lucky JC students will be working with acclaimed authors to hone their creative writing skills. “Dr. D” – creative writing consultant and author Donato D’Albis – will meet with grades 3 through 5, and on November 6th acclaimed author and illustrator Donald Crews will meet with grades k-2. Check your Friday folders for order forms for some of Donald Crews books. Autographed copies will be available. Bakers needed for Election Day Bake Sale! The Fifth grade needs your help. We are holding an Election Day bake sale on Tues. Nov. 4, from 7 AM -7 PM. The profits of this bake sale will go towards the fifth grade end of the year activities. Please help to make this bake sale a success by baking and shopping. Suggestions are cupcakes, cookies, brownies, banana bread, or pies. You can drop off the baked goods on Mon. Nov. 3 at 2:30 PM at JC or at Rianne Fernandez's house. Thank you! Our rehearsals will begin on Wednesday, December 3rd, after school at Julian Curtiss for senior dancers, junior dancers, actors, actresses and singers. Breakdancers and groups (Alvin and The Chipmonks) will start on Wednesday, January 7th. Coaches include Louise Salzer, Lisa Bologna, Marilyn White, Kim Orlando, Leslie Yager, Fanny DeCoster, Wendy Venieri and Arden Angelo. Any parents wishing to volunteer for the performances should contact coordinators and supermoms Heather Raftery or Caroline Reilly. JC Service Club News: The Service Club, in conjunction with the American Red Cross, will be collecting money to help the victims of hurricane Ike. There will be a collection jug in the front lobby starting next week. Please help by donating change, dollars or checks (made payable to the American Red Cross). Thank you! JC Mile Run 2008 Results: Attention all Parents! We need volunteers to help JC nurse Leslie Vandermeer perform the annual vision and hearing screening for all students in grades 1, 2, 4 and 5. I have posted sign-up sheets outside of all pertinent classrooms. These important tests will be conducted outside of the auditorium during gym class on November 12th, 13th, 14th and 18th. Volunteers will help rotate children in and out of gym class for these screenings. Please check the sign-up sheet for times or contact Marianne Koushouris. For any parents concerned with the change in venue, please contact Anne Beaty or Rianne Fernandez. If you wish to withdraw your child's name from the cast list of RTC @ The SuperShow and receive a refund, please contact Cheryl Resnick by November 15th. Family Science Night With the Dirtmeister: being held on Wednesday, November 19, is open to all students in grades 3 – 6 and is open to the first 150 people. Please pick up a registration form from the ALP teachers at your school or at the school office. Registration forms are due on or before November 14, 2008. This fills rapidly so please send your registration form by US Mail to the ALP Office at The Havemeyer Building, 290 Greenwich Avenue, Greenwich, CT 06830. INFORMACION SWAP Elecciones Presidenciales del Colegio Julian Curtis anuncian que el Viernes 31 de Octubre todos loe estudiantes de JC, Glenville y personal fueron a las urnas de votacion para escoger a nuestro proximo presidente. Usamos papel “ballot” con las fotos de los candidates presidenciales democratas y republicanos. Nuestros ninos y personal solamente tuvieron que marcar la casilla del candiadto que mas les gustaba. Estamos en el proceso de cuenta de votos y anunciaremos el candidate elegido por JC eleccion presidencial el Lunes 3 de Noviembre durante la salida al aire de JC TODAY SHOW. Esta eleccion puede ser un buen tema de conversacion para padres e hijos durante este fin de semana. Nuestro colegio estara cerrado el dia de Elecciones Martes Noviembre 4. El colegio re-abriira sus puertas el Miercoles 5 de Noviembre. Se les recuerda a los padres de ejercer su derecho al voto. El dia de Verde y Blanco es el proximo Viernes 7 de Noviembre. Por favor acuerdense de que sus hijos lleven algo verde o blanco para asi mostrar el espiritu de nuestro colegio. El Festival de los escritoires sera llevado acabo la proxima semana.
