Loss of LPG (Calor Gas) supply

Important notes for Premises Managers, Property Advisors and SCC contractors to
assist with getting supply re-instated.

Important - please ensure these notes are made available to anyone who may have to deal with the
loss of LPG supply in your building. Please also post a copy in a prominent location in the general
office/ admin area and also wherever your Calor gas is stored.

What to do if you run out of LPG
1. Make sure the loss of heating is actually due to running out of LPG and not another
cause e.g.
• Has the heating system been turned off?
• Is there a boiler or associated control fault (e.g. are fault lights showing on the
control panel?)

If the fault is not due to running out of LPG please contact the Property Helpdesk or your
Property Advisor

1. If you have run out of LPG please contact the Energy Team in the first instance (for
contact details see below)
2. The Energy Team will do their best to arrange an urgent delivery, but it is likely to
be the following day before we can get fuel to you even if your site is care critical. Usually
we will be able to give an indication when fuel is likely to be delivered (e.g. morning or
afternoon)
3. Notify your Property Advisor or the Property Helpdesk of the problem and they will
arrange for a contractor to recommission the boiler as soon as a delivery is made. The
boiler will not automatically restart after running out of LPG.

How to make sure you don’t run out of LPG

1. Report tank faults (e.g. gauge not reading accurately) immediately to the Property
Dept and follow up if repairs are not carried out.
2. If you are unsure how much LPG is left place an order by calling Calor Gas on
0870 240 8240.
3. Never let fuel level fall below ¼ full or one weeks supply.
4. If LPG is used to heat your premises please be aware fuel consumption can rise
dramatically in cold weather. Don’t be surprised to see consumption double or treble in
severe weather.
5. Make sure you have enough LPG before winter holiday breaks. Heating will
continue to operate to provide frost protection even when the site is closed
6. School holidays: Make sure you have enough fuel to see you through to the new
term. We recommend you have at least half a tank of fuel before you break up. Please
ensure heating system is set to holiday before you finish.
      Gas failure on bulk tanks

      1. Check contents indicator and pressure gauge on tank if fitted.
      2. Turn off tap at each appliance.
      3. Close the emergency control (shut-off) valve outside the property AND
      4. Close the isolation valve on top of an above ground tank, or beneath the under of
      an underground tank.
      5. Ring the Calor emergency service (24 hour) on 0845 7 444 999.
