Porn Bailout
January 7, 2009 – Pornography moguls Joe Francis and Larry Flynt have joined America’s largest automakers in asking Congress for a financial bailout. The two wrote a letter to congress asking for a relief for the pornography industry, asking that they be granted an unknown sum. Francis later added “The government is handing out money. They're moving toward a nationalized economy, and Larry and I felt we might as well be a part of it." Although their respective companies (Girls Gone Wild and Flynt Publications) have seen a downturn due to the advent of free internet pornography, it is unclear whether they genuinely need the money to stay afloat. Even so, Flynt argues that it is necessary, stating “"People are too depressed to be sexually active. This is very unhealthy as a nation. Americans can do without cars and such but they cannot do without sex."
