Quotation for building works at 31 Ainsworth Avenue
Dear Mr Smith,

In response to your invitation to tender for a garden patio steps and retaining
walls at Ovingdean Brighton we at Masonry construction Projects Ltd would
like to provide the following quote with the accompanied breakdown of costs
and final fee.

The following terms of work were agreed at our last meeting if there are any
adjustments or details incorrectly recorded please make contact before the
commencement of works to prevent any later problems which will affect the
completion date and final project cost.

Confirmed building specification

The quotation provides a detailed outline of the costs related to the complete
construction of patio and garden steps with retaining walls to the dimensions
agreed at our last meeting. These are shown below:

To match the existing extension and garden walls we will use West Hoathly
stock bricks, with a brick on edge capping where suitable.

When setting out the all measurements for the steps we at MCP endeavour to
ensure the walls and steps work full face bricks (225mm and 75mm gauge)
for maximum visual appeal.

Slabs will be laid with 130mm cut and a 450mm full slab to achieve 100mm
bearing for the bricks forming the next step and allow a 20-30mm overhang to
keep rainwater away from the brick faces.

The patio to garden steps will be composed of six steps with a rise of 265 (3
courses of brick 225mm and bedded slab 40mm).

A small retaining wall will also be completed to bring the steps outside the
pool roofline, and return this wall into the rear of the pool to provide a storage
space at the rear of the structure.

Slabs will be laid with 130mm cut + 450mm full slab to achieve 100mm
bearing for bricks forming next step and allow a 20-30mm overhang, also a
350mm cut slab will be placed to allow side access to the steps from the lower
patio.

A 9x4 brick retaining wall will be built from the pool which then returns into the
steps, this will provide a small storage area for the customers use.

The stepped back retaining wall will be completed with an ashlar pier stopped
end, brick on edge finish and rendered panel.

Agreed conditions of work

For additional clarity in this quote here are the details we agreed on our final
meeting before completing this quote:

   1. All building materials required for the construction of the wall are to be
      ordered on the customer’s builder’s merchant account, so this should
      be open and in credit at time of construction.
   2. Essential services and equipment are for the completion of this project
      are present on site on the agreed start date e.g. running water,
      electricity, toilets and sanitation services

Masonry construction projects Ltd complete a detailed risk assessment before
any proposed work is begun. Below we have covered some of the main risks
that may occur and escalate into issues, in addition to our planned responses
to prevent any undue impact on project timescales of quality.

Labour cost breakdown

A full day of work consists of 8:00 – 17:00.

Since the materials have already been supplied this is a labour only quotation,
which has considered the access to the site, supply of utilities and final build
specification.

1. Excavation of foundations

    Patio to Garden Steps
   Excavate 4.1m3 of soil and chalk (2.7 x 1.6 x 19 = 8.2 / 2 = 4.1) and dig
   stepped trenches for concrete foundations = £640
    Patio Steps
   Excavate 2.6 of chalk (1.8 x 1.8 x 0.8 = 2.59) and dig trenches = £ 240


2. Set out levels and pour concrete foundations

      Patio to Garden Steps = £ 240
      Patio Steps = £200

3. Build retaining walls

     Patio to Garden Steps
          o Retaining walls for steps (12 x 8 = 252 Bricks and 25 Blocks x 2
             = 504 and 50 blocks) With Brick on edge finish
Subtotal = £500

      Patio Steps
          o Returned wall from pool to front step
          o Complete racked back existing retaining wall and first three
              courses for first step.

Subtotal = £ 400

4. Build Steps
     Fill lean mix concrete and mixed hardcore in at each step place slabs,
       level and joint. Then clear site of wastage and safely store any left over
       materials = £360



Final Labour Total = £ 2580
