October 2009 Spotlight on Service: Harold Mooneyhan An 86-year-old man who is asked to serve on a committee to help form the vision for the next 25 years of the church must have wisdom to share. Indeed he does. Harold Mooneyhan (or “Pop” to me), has lived all over the South – from North Carolina to Arkansas, from Florida to Tennessee – and has followed God’s call in each area to actively serve in God’s church, wherever God led him through his work at Fred’s Inc. But his service at Morris Memorial is what we want to spotlight in this article. Over the years, Mr. Mooneyhan has served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and in many other capacities at our church. He currently serves on the finance and future growth committees and coordinates and oversees the ushers/greeters as well as the money counting functions of the church. He serves as the back-up teacher for his Sunday School class, and over the years, he’s often had to lead business meetings and remind us all what a budget is and how to follow it. Despite his recent widower status after 66 years of marriage, I’ve never seen Mr. Mooneyhan come empty handed to a fellowship meal. I’ve never seen him unwilling to participate, learn, or give. And I’ve never heard him complain or have trouble taming his tongue. When I think of Pop, here are some words that come to my mind: integrity, honor, service, humility, wisdom, generosity, family-focused, faithful, devotion, hard-worker. So this month when Mr. Mooneyhan greets you with his firm and warm handshake at the entrance to the church, hug his neck and thank him for his faithfulness to God’s call, his servant’s heart, and his rock-solid example for those of us behind him a little in years. “Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth." - Psalms 96:1 Pete Will Do It!! Hallow-Him Festival When Pete joined the MMBC Adult choir, little October 31st did he know that he would be the “go-to” person for any and all our emergency (and planned) 5:00 – 7:30 pm needs. Pete is a huge blessing to all of us, and in a pinch, Pete can and will use his talents for the PreK - 6th grade Lord by pitching in wherever he is needed – to Moon Bounce filling as a soloist at the last minute on a song he Carnival hasn’t planned to sing, leading our song service Games/Prizes in worship, or even directing a choir practice in Puppet Show the rare event Gary is away. Whenever there is a Popcorn male soloist needed these days, we all seem to LOTS of CANDY volunteer Pete by saying, “Pete will do it!” even Pictures when he isn’t present. And Pete never fails to Cupcake Walk deliver a stunning performance.
