Directors’ Choice Itinerary of The Garden Route

Firrets South Africa Blue Label Experience

Make your pilgrimage to South Africa’s golfing mecca…

1. Accommodation

Fancourt estate boasts 3 of the SA Top 20 courses and remains a premier golfing
destination. The courses are however open for play to members and hotel guests only. At
Fancourt you will be accommodated for 3 nights in the 500 Series Garden Suites – specially
built for the 2003 President’s Cup.

The remaining 5 nights of your Garden Route experience, we suggest the Villa Suite at
Pezula. Spacious and ultra-comfortable, with views of the lagoon or ocean from your
private patio.

2. Golfing

With a plethora of excellent golf courses, choosing only 4 is a challenge. We recommend
The Links at Fancourt designed by Gary Player, during your stay here. Alternatively play
Montagu at Fancourt (also a Player design) if a links course is not preferred.

During your stay at Pezula, you can enjoy rounds at Ernie Els’s Oubaai, near Herold’s Bay,
Jack Nicklaus designed Simola and finally Pezula itself.
3. Attractions & Leisure

It is the breathtaking scenery of the Garden Route that mesmerise most visitors.
www.gardenroute.co.za

The Featherbed Nature Reserve is a privately-owned reserve and only accessible by ferry. It
is a spectacular eco-experience and was visited by the Commonwealth Heads of State
during their visit to this region. www.featherbed.co.za

A private charter on a luxury catamaran yacht is ideal to explore the Knysna Heads, where
the Indian Ocean meets the Knysna Lagoon (estuary). Enjoy champagne and Knysna’s best
love delicacies, oysters.

Shark-cage diving and bungi- and bridge jumping are only examples of what the daring and
adventurous visitor may expect along the Garden route. Confront your inner fear of great
whites and face them eye-to-eye in the Indian Ocean.

For the less extreme traveller, Southern Right whale watching between June and November
is a highlight of this region. Combined with over 300 bird species and 1 500 indigenous
fynbos species, the Garden Route is a nature aficionado’s treat. There are also many
opportunities to hike the natural forests around Knysna, whether it be for an hour or a
whole day.

Historical attractions are bountiful including a 500 year old post-tree to Mossel Bay’s
Cultural History Museum. The dramatic Cango Caves in Oudtshoorn, a town world-famous
for its ostriches, is well worth a visit and extremely popular with overseas and local
visitors. www.cangocaves.co.za

We shall gladly arrange for a safari 4x4 game drive in a private game reserve near the town
of George. Here you will find elephant, giraffe, lion and rhinoceros among the many other
wildlife.
4. Fine Dining

Many fine and interesting restaurants and eateries can be found along the Garden Route
and a selection can be viewed under the Golfing Regions section of www.firrets.com.

5. Transportation

All road transportation will be in ultra-comfortable, luxury chauffeur-driven vehicles. A
helicopter transfer from Pezula to George Airport is included.

A Summary of Your Accommodation

Fancourt Hotel & Country Club Estate

Fancourt offers various accommodation options ranging from the Manor House hotel to a
variety of garden suites. We recommend the 500 Series One-bedroom Executive Garden
Suites built for the Presidents Cup of Golf in 2003. The gardens are the most peaceful
setting on the estate and ideal for ultimate relaxation. Your stay of 3 nights here includes a
full English breakfast and ensures access to the spa and pools – a most invigorating
experience that is not to be missed.

Fancourt offers many other options such as the Taylor Made High-Tec Lab for golf swing
analysis and custom fitting of golf clubs. A Hall of Fame is situated in the main building and
the Ernie Els Foundation also operates from Fancourt.

Fancourt is situated on the outskirts of the town of George and is owned by Mr Hasso
Plattner.

Further reading and info available at www.fancourt.co.za or contact Firrets SA.
Pezula Resort Hotel & Spa

The remaining 5 nights of your visit to the Garden Route will be spent at Pezula in the
picturesque coastal village, Knysna. The 68sq metre Villa Suites with separate lounge area,
also has a patio with views of either the Knysna Lagoon, the golf course or the Indian
Ocean.

With real log fire places, gourmet pantry kitchen, climate control and stone and wooded
textures to name a few, it is no wonder that Pezula was voted one of the World’s Best 100
Places to Stay in 2006, by Travel & Leisure (US).

Your accommodation here includes a full English breakfast, use of the hot spa area,
gymnasium and the estates shuttle service.

Summary of Golf Courses

The Links at Fancourt, George

You will probably not record your best score here as this is arguably SA’s most difficult
course. Being the country’s No. 3 however, you can be assured of an unique experience on
this Gary Player design. Exclusivity is obvious since the course is reserved for members
only, but a limited number of hotel residents are allowed a tee-off time every day. No carts
are allowed as walking is part of the Links game, but exceptions are made to visitors with
medical certificates.

The Links hosted the 2003 Presidents Cup, the 2005 Women’s World Cup of Golf and the
2006 South African Airways Open. Further details at www.fancourt.co.za or Firrets SA.
Oubaai Golf Course, Herold’s Bay

Oubaai was designed by Ernie Els and opened for play in 2005. Still unranked, the course is
built on oceanside cliffs against the backdrop of the Indian Ocean.

Green-fees include a cart. Visit www.oubaai.co.za or contact Firrets SA for more
information.

Simola Golf & Country Estate, Knysna

After opening in 2005, Simola was voted Golf Digest’s Best New Course 2005. Built high in
the hills above Knysna, this by Jack Nicklaus Signature course has an unusual 5 par 5’s and 3
par 3’s. You will have marvellous views of the region and the layout is a challenging one,
yet it provides a lot of fun.

Your round here includes a cart and halfway meal. Read more at www.simolaestate.co.za
or contact Firrets SA.

Pezula Golf Club, Knysna

Pezula is very deservedly South Africa’s No. 14 golf course. Overlooking the Indian Ocean,
the views here are simply stunning. It’s a tough course to walk and a cart is therefore
included in your fees. Attention to personal service is a priority here and you’ll find your
name on a locker and your cart upon arrival. It is essentially a members club with limited
tee-off times set aside for visitors.

The course has a Scottish Highlands feel with an incredibly diverse coastal terrain and was
designed by GolfPlan USA. Additional information available at www.pezula.com or contact
Firrets SA.
