					                                 PHYSICAL EDUCATION OUTLINE

GENERAL INFORMATION: If you have received your Physical Education credit and desire to
retake an advanced P.E. class, you must have passed P.E. I and P.E. II with a grade of “C” or above.
Field trips are an integral part of P.E. II and Advanced P.E. (Coed Lifetime Sports).
All classes are coeducational unless the activity involves bodily contact or groupings are based on an
objective standard of individual performance developed and applied without regard to gender.
Heart Rate Monitors may be used to help students realize their cardiovascular fitness level.

I. PHYSICAL EDUCATION I
Physical Education I continues the emphasis on health-related fitness and developing the
skills and habits necessary for a lifetime of activity. This program includes skill
development and the application of rules and strategies of complex difficulty in the
following: health-related fitness activities (cardio respiratory endurance, muscular
strength and endurance, flexibility, and body composition), aerobic exercise, aquatics, and
           team sports.

II. PHYSICAL EDUCATION II
Physical Education II emphasizes a personal commitment to lifetime activity and fitness for
enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and social interaction. This course provides students
with opportunities to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness and
increase their knowledge of fitness concepts. It includes movement forms different from
Physical Education I. Movement forms may include the following: outdoor pursuits,
aquatics, recreational games, individual and dual sports and some team sports. Ongoing
assessment may include both written and performance-based skill evaluation.

III. ELECTIVE PHYSICAL EDUCATION (Weights)
The Bigger, Faster, Stronger weight training program will emphasized. This program is
designed to increase both a student’s strength and condition level. It consists of 6-8 core
lifts that will target the major muscle groups of the body and several different auxiliary
lifts that work smaller muscles of the body and supplement the core lifts. The emphasis is
on free-weight and freestanding lifts. These lifts require maintaining balance and a high
level of coordination in the major muscle groups and will help develop this in the student.
In addition a strong emphasis is placed on health-related fitness activities such as cardio
respiratory endurance, muscular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility and body
            composition.
