UWS POSITION STATEMENT POSITION DETAILS: Position Title: Project Officer – Indigenous Employment Establishment No: School/Office: Office of the Director of Indigenous Employment and Engagement College/Division: Division of Corporate Strategy and Services CONTEXT: This is an identified position under section 14(D) of the NSW Anti Discrimination Act, 1977 and applicants must be an Indigenous Australian. The Office of Indigenous Employment and Engagement is located within Human Resources and works across all areas of the University developing, scoping, managing, implementing and executing key initiatives that contribute to the University achieving its key goals and objectives in the context of Indigenous employment and engagement. UWS has developed a major staffing strategy titled Our People 2015 which includes the development and implementation of an Indigenous Employment and Engagement Strategy. This strategy has a number of sub projects which aim to: 1. Attract, place, retain and develop Indigenous careers at UWS 2. Engage with the Indigenous community in the context of employment and engagement across the University community 3. Embed cultural competency across the university 4. Manage Indigenous traineeships, cadetships and internship projects 5. Support the scoping and implementation of solutions aligned to Indigenous KPIs for the other eight Our People 2015 projects:         Recruitment and Selection Employee Retention and Relationships Talent Management/Workforce Planning Performance and Career Development Reward and Recognition Academic Agenda Culture, Climate and Employer Branding Organisational Leadership A strong factor for the success of the project is local community engagement and dialogue. This has implications for the other eight projects in the identification of strategic and operational employment and engagement imperatives in driving UWS as an employer of choice for Indigenous Australians within Greater Western Sydney. PURPOSE/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: The Project Officer is responsible for providing direction and outputs for projects and programs designed to meet the business requirements as outlined by the Director, Indigenous Employment and Engagement. Further, to scope and drive all aspects of the project deliverables including implementing project plans for program initiatives. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: The Project Officer will report to the Director, Indigenous Employment and Engagement and has no direct reports. SCOPE: The UWS Our People 2015 Indigenous Employment and Engagement project interacts with staff across the entire breadth of UWS and with external stakeholders in Industry and Government. The Project Officer will be required to attend and actively participate in, and contribute to the working party meetings and the consultation group meetings of the UWS Our People 2015 Indigenous Employment and Engagement project. They will also be required to manage the reporting framework of each of the initiatives within the program. KEY FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: Provide project management for programs and projects within the Indigenous Employment and Engagement portfolio.   Effectively manage the programs and project schedules to time, resources and budget. To contribute to the development and implementation of project work undertaken within the Office of Indigenous Employment and Engagement, including undertaking research and benchmarking best practice in a range of operational settings, within the higher education sector and within industry. Stay abreast of all projects managed by the Unit and provide accurate, up to date information on projects to enquirers. Undertake data extraction from University systems and other identified sources, and prepare associated reports, including preparation of detailed charts. Undertake information searches on the web sort and interpret data and prepare management reports. Undertake extensive consultation and liaison with senior colleagues in key linkage areas to develop and provide quality advice, analysis and input on project development activities that lead to the achievement of strategic goals. Identifying, tracking, managing, resolving project issues, and mitigating project risks. Proactively disseminating project information to all stakeholders. Managing the overall project schedule to ensure work is assigned and completed on time and within budget. Contributing to quality assurance on all projects within the Unit Ensure OH&S, Equity and Diversity principles are incorporated into all aspects of work. Participate in the cyclical performance management planning and review process and meet agreed operational objectives set for the performance period.           SELECTION CRITERIA:         An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience in a project management or a complex administrative environment. Demonstrated knowledge of project management methodology and project tools. Demonstrated high level of analytical and problem solving skills including an established record of exercising initiative. Demonstrated high level of written communication skills including the ability to write reports and to respond to routine correspondence. Demonstrated high level of organisational and administrative skills Demonstrated experience working with the Indigenous community Demonstrated ability to research, gather data and prepare reports utilising a variety of sources. Demonstrated ability to devise and create process maps and establishing clear expectations to enable working team participants to track their accountabilities for meeting project objectives.  Demonstrated ability to contribute to team building skills and foster an environment where team members feel motivated to fully contribute to the project and meaningfully interact with their team members.     Evidence of working and communicating effectively with Indigenous staff and within the Indigenous community. Demonstrated ability to maintain discretion and a high level of confidentiality. A current driver’s licence with a willingness to travel across all UWS campuses. An understanding of the principles of anti-discrimination, staff and student equity, occupational health and safety and other relevant legislation, and the ability to implement equal employment opportunity and occupational health and safety plans, policies and programs.  Capability to undertake risk management and actively support and participate in the risk management processes adopted by the University which include identifying, analysing and evaluating risks that may impact on the University Date Position Statement Last Reviewed: 28.10.08
