We’ve been monitoring the rate of new copier launches since the beginning of 1985; our copier model index compares new product introductions in each six month period with our base period – the first six months of 1985. The graph below clearly shows the upward trend.

Half Year period
The first half of 2004 was exceptionally high with an index of 340 and the first half of 2005 has also been busy with an index of 208 representing 129 launches of models with copier functionality including 54 colour machines. During the first ten years of our index (1985 to 1994) the average number of copiers launched each year was 109, during the last 5 years (2000 to 2004) this has almost doubled to 213. For colour models the change is even more dramatic with average annual launches increasing twelve fold, from under 5 in the ten years to 1994, to 60 in the last five years. Projectors Three new projectors from Acer; the PD116D is a DLP projector offering brightness of 2100 ANSI lumens and resolution of 800 x 600 at £579, the PD125 at £769 is also DLP with 2000 ANSI lumens and 1024 x 768 resolution, finally the PD322 will be launched at the beginning of August at £949. The Canon LV-S4 at £799 is a 1500 ANSI lumens, LCD projector with resolution of 800 x 600. Epson introduce the EMP-760 and EMP-765, both are LCD with brightness of 2500 ANSI lumens (2000 in silent mode) and native resolution of 1024 x 768. S3 at £509 offers 1600 ANSI lumens and is an LCD model with native resolution of 800 x 600. From Hewlett Packard the iPAQ mp3135 is an 1800 ANSI lumens DLP projector. The Mitsubishi EX100U is an XGA mobile projector with brightness of 2000 ANSI lumens, list price is £1100. Scanners The Canon CanoScan LiDE 25 and LiDE 60 are flatbed, A4 full colour scanners. In July Plustek launched the Opticfilm 7200i film scanner at £389. Faxes From Brother the Fax 2820 and Fax 2920 are laser models. The 2820 at £179 has a 14400 modem speed and 400 page memory, the 2920 at £219 has a 33600 speed modem and 500 page memory. Printers The Canon Lasershot LBP-5200 is a full colour laser printer with optional networking, mono speed is 19ppm and colour speed is 4ppm, list price is £203.Also from Canon the iR85+ is an 85ppm networked laser printer with an A3 print speed of 43ppm. The Epson Aculaser C2600N is a full colour network laser printer with a mono speed of 30ppm and a full colour speed of 7.5ppm, standard paper supply is 650 sheets upgradeable to 1150 sheets and the list price is £526. The Stylus photo R320 at £126 is a 6 colour inkjet photo printer operating at 15ppm with resolution of up to 5760 x 1440 dpi. The Stylus Photo R2400 is an A3+ full colour inkjet capable of printing an 8 x 10” photo image in 80 seconds and priced at £509. The Stylus Pro 4800 at £1495 is a large format, roll or sheet fed colour inkjet printer with speeds up to 12 m2 per hour. Hewlett Packard recently introduced several new printers; the business inkjet 1000 at £103 operates at 23ppm mono and 2ppm colour and has optional networking, new large format models include the Designjet 70 at £730, Designjet 90 at £925, Designjet 90R at £1030 and Designjet 90GP at £1120.The Color Laserjet 2600n priced at £251 is an 8ppm mono and full colour network laser printer. There are also new photo printers from Hewlett Packard; the Photosmart 375 at £156, Photosmart 7450 at £66, Photosmart 8150 at £120 and Photosmart 8450 at £165. From Konica Minolta the Magicolor 2450 at £449 prints at 20ppm black and 5ppm in full colour, the Magicolor 5450 at £1169 prints at over 25ppm in black and colour. The Mitsubishi CP9550DW is a dye sublimation printer with new dual line heads, the list price is £1449. From NRG (Nashuatec, Rex Rotary and Gestetner) the P7535N at £1079 is a 35ppm, mono, network, laser printer with optional bluetooth, firewire and wireless LAN connectivity. The Oki C3200 and C3200n are full colour laser models operating at 20ppm mono and 12ppm in colour. Prices are £279 and £359 for the network ready 3200n version. The C5250n and C5250dn are 24ppm mono and 16ppm colour printers priced at £489 and £579 (the dn version includes duplex), the C5450n and C5450dn have similar spec but with additional memory and PCL5c and postscript 3, prices for these are £679 and £765. The C9600 series print at 40ppm mono and 36ppm in full colour and are network ready, prices are from £2899. The C9800 series has the same speeds but offers more RAM, hard disk as standard and a faster processor, these are available from £5749. MFP’s The Brother MFC7225N is a 20 ppm, mono, multifunctional printer, fax and scanner with a list price of £249. From Epson the Aculaser CX11N priced at £503 offers
copying, printing, faxing and scanning and has print speeds of 25ppm mono and 5ppm colour. Two new high volume copier/printer/scanners from Canon are the iR125 and iR150 with print speeds of 125ppm and 150ppm. The Hewlett Packard Color Laserjet 2820 at £569 and 2840 at £639 offer print, copy and scan with fax also available on the 2840. The HP psc1410 at £59 has print, copy and scan functions with a print speed of 18ppm mono and a colour speed of 13ppm. From Konica Minolta the full colour Bizhub C450 prints at 45ppm mono and 35ppm in colour and has print, copy, scan and fax functions. The Bizhub C500 offers copy, scan and 50ppm printing in black and colour. The Bizhub Pro 1050 is a networked mono, laser, high volume copier, scanner and 105ppm printer. The Ricoh Group (NRG, Lanier and Ricoh brands) offer several new multifunctional machines with print, copy, scan and fax functionality. Kyocera Mita have launched the FS-1118MFP an 18ppm mono device offering print, copy, fax and scan at £449 for the basic model and £620 for the DF version including network fax and document finisher. Muratec introduced the F300 a 13ppm MFP at £995 and the MFX1330 from £1495. The NRG DSc424 at £9395 is a branding of the Ricoh Aficio 3224c (available from Infotec as the ISC1024c and from Lanier as the LD124c), this model has print speeds of 24ppm mono and 10ppm colour; the DSc428 at £11895 is a branding of the Ricoh Aficio 3228c (available from Infotec as the ISC2428 and from Lanier as the LD328c), this has a 28ppm mono speed and 24ppm colour speed; the DSc432 at £10795 is a branding of the Ricoh Aficio 3232c (available from Lanier as the LD132c) and has a mono speed of 32ppm with a 10ppm colour speed; the DSC435 at £13595 is a branding of the Ricoh Aficio 3235c (Lanier LD335c) with a mono print speed of 35ppm and a colour speed of 28ppm; and the DSc445 at £15395 is a branding of the Ricoh Aficio 3245c (Lanier LD345c) has print speeds of 45ppm mono and 35ppm colour. A new large format model from NRG is due in September. The Oki C5500 series are full colour multifunctional models offering print, copy and scan functions. The C5510MFP prints at 20ppm mono, 12ppm colour and is priced at £869, the C5540MFP at £1250 has speeds of 24ppm mono and 16ppm colour. From Panasonic the Workio DP6030 at £13645 is a 60ppm mono MFP. The Sharp AL1552 is a duplex, mono copier/printer with colour scanning and 15cpm copy speed (12ppm print speed) at £280. The AL1553 has a similar specification but incorporates a document feed, list price for this model is £350. The Sharp AM300 at £170.20 and the AM400 at £212.75 are also mono MFP’s with colour scanning. The AM400 includes fax. From Toshiba there are 4 new mono products all with copy, print, fax and scan functionality; the e-studio 520 prints at 52ppm and has a list price of £14195, the e-studio 600 prints at 60ppm and has a price of £15495, the e-studio 720 at £18295 is 72ppm and the e-studio 850 at £22995 is an 85ppm machine. Toshiba also have two new colour capable models the e-studio 2100c with print speeds of 31ppm mono and 21ppm in colour at £12495 and the e-studio 3100c with mono and colour speeds of 31ppm at £15495. Xerox have a new 18ppm mono series; the Copycentre C118 available in a variety of configurations from £1213, the Workcentre C118 series from £2498 and the Workcentre M118 series from £3013. The Xerox Workcentre C226 is a colour machine with speeds of 26ppm mono and 17ppm colour priced at £4934. The Workcentre C2424 series operates at 24ppm in black and colour and is priced from £1999.
