SAILING INSTRUCTIONS Heat Four 1. RACE DATE & STARTING TIME Heat 4 SUNDAY 7th May 2006 START PROCEDURE IS DESCRIBED IN THESE INSTRUCTIONS 1 2. RULES 2.1.1 The race shall be conducted under the 2005-2008 Racing Rules of Sailing, as amended, the Prescriptions and Safety Regulations of the AYF., the Notice of Race, the AMS Handicap System and the VCA regulations. 2.1.2 All yachts taking part in the Sun Theatre Trophy shall as a minimum comply with AYF Safety Regulations, Category 5. 2.2 Between sunset and Sunrise, the International Regulations for the prevention of Collisions at Sea shall replace the corresponding Rules of Part 2 of the Racing Rules. 2.3 AVOIDANCE OF SHIPPING AND USE OF MOTOR TO DO SO All yachts competing shall avoid all commercial shipping at all times. Yachts using their engines to avoid shipping shall not be penalised providing the yacht notes in detail the event in her log, the approximate distance travelled and direction, and after being clear shall move to a position and complete a 720 degree turn such that she does not gain a position to her advantage in the race. Yachts causing interference with shipping shall be disqualified. 2.4 RESPONSIBILITY All yachts taking part in races conducted by the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria do so at their own risk and responsibility. The R.Y.C.V. is not responsible for the seaworthiness of a yacht whose entry is accepted or the sufficiency or adequacy of its equipment. The R.Y.C.V. reserves the right to refuse an entry, without giving reason. Attention is drawn to Racing Rule 4. A boat is solely responsible for deciding whether or not to start or to continue racing. 3. STARTING LINE & POSITION; 4.2.1 Heat Four The Starting Line shall be an imaginary line between the QCYC Flag Mast and the light on the Popes Eye Bank. 5. STARTING PROCEDURE 5.1 Heat Four 5.1.1 Yachts shall cross the Starting Line in a north westerly direction to Start. 5.1.2 Starting times will be recorded by the Race Officials stationed at Queenscliff. 5.1.3 Yachts shall notify their intention to start on VHF Channel 73 or Ph 0417153378 approximately 10 minutes prior to Starting. 5.1.4 Yachts may start Heat Four at any time between their finish time for The Phoenix Trophy and 1400 hours Sunday 7th May 2006. 6. FINISHING LINE & FINISHING PROCEDURE: 6.1.1 The finishing line shall be an imaginary line between the flag staff on the Northern arm of the R.Y.C.V. Marina and mark "O" located approximately 150m the North. 6.1.2 Yachts shall identify themselves after dark by illuminating their sail number and call "ROYALS TWO" on VHF Channel 73 when passing breakwater pier. Yachts are requested to pass close to the flag staff for identification. THORSEN Phone is 0417153378. s 6.1.3 At the moment when any part of the leading yacht' hull, crew or equipment in normal position crosses the Finishing Line, a gun may be fired. 6.1.4 Boats are advised to keep a record there own time of finishing 7. TIME LIMIT. The absolute time limits for all yachts shall be 2200 hours Sunday 05 May 2003 for Heat Four. Yachts finishing after this time shall be scored DNF This alters the RRS. 8. POSTPONEMENT AND ABANDONMENT All signals shall be strictly in accordance with the Race Signals of the Racing Rules. The Race Committee at its discretion may display these signals from the RYCV Club Mast, or the QC Yacht Club. 3 9. PROTESTS Protests shall be notified to an Official of the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria prior to 1200 hrs on the Monday following the race. All protests shall be strictly in accordance with Rule 61.Protests will be heard at 8 p.m. on the Thursday following the race, unless otherwise notified. 10. ALTERATIONS TO INSTRUCTIONS Any alterations to these instructions may be printed on the list of entrants sheet attached hereto. Should it be necessary to alter the Sailing Instructions after delivering or posting same, International Code Flag "L" shall be displayed from the R.Y.C.V. Mast and where possible on other Club Masts. The change in the Sailing Instructions shall be displayed on the R.Y.C.V. Noticeboard at least four hours before the start of the race. Copies of any change may also be available from the Committee Vessel. Such procedure and posting shall constitute official notice. 11. COMMERCIAL SHIPPING IN PORT PHILLIP Regulations specify that yachts shall not interfere with Commercial Shipping in the above areas, much of which is difficult pilotage waters and very restricted channels for Commercial Shipping. Yachts found to have interfered with commercial shipping shall be subject to disqualification. 12. EMERGENCY USE OF POWER The use of power to avoid interference with Commercial Shipping under way may be permitted by the Race Committee but under the conditions outlined in Paragraph 2.3. 13. RETIREMENT FROM RACE 13.1 Any boat retiring from the race shall notify an official of the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria by radio on Channel VHF73, call sign “Royals One” or telephone 03 9397 1277 or 0417153378 as soon as possible. 13.2 THE ROYAL YACHT CLUB OF VICTORIA RESERVES THE RIGHT TO ALTER OR ADJUST ANY HANDICAP FOUND TO BE INCORRECTLY CALCULATED OR PRINTED. 14. RADIO SCHEDULES An informal radio watch will be kept on VHF Channel 73 yachts should call in their passing times at P2 or telephone 0417153378. 15. COMUNICATION Prior to starting all competitors shall contact “Royals 2” on VHF 73, this is an eligibility requirement and boats not complying shall be scored DNC. This alters the RRS. Boats are advised to maintain a listening watch on VHF 73 at all times. The race committee may also be contacted on Phone 0417153378. 4
