POSITION DESCRIPTION APPROVED TITLE: Associate Director, Career Counseling DEPARTMENT: Babcock School SUPERVISOR: Director, Career Management center APPROVED GRADE: BB2 FLSA : Exempt EEO: 30 DATE APPROVED: 8/15/08 POSITION SUMMARY: Collaborates with MA and MBA students on career counseling activities. Administers self assessment instruments, reviews student strengths and weaknesses, develops resumes, provides interview preparation, crafts student marketing plans, and provides salary negotiation training. Also responsible for working with program administrators on mentor program content and admissions events, conducting career management seminars, and collaborating with CMC staff to enhance placement related processes and policies. QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Experience and Training Bachelor’s Degree with 10 or more years experience in career services, or human resources, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's or Doctorate degree preferred. Knowledge, Skills, Ability  Knowledge of career counseling principles.  Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal and presentation skills.  Knowledge of current employment trends and placement opportunities.  Skills as a short-and long-range planner with ability to adapt plans to an ever-changing environment.  Possesses strong initiative, excellent judgment and an ability to function independently.  Ability to interact with the public, students, faculty and other staff members to accomplish office goals.  Excellent counseling skills. Knowledge of leadership, work style, and personality tests is required.  Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.  Ability to make proactive decisions.  Excellent organizational and time management skills.  Ability to organize work tasks and establish priorities.  Proficiency with relevant computer programs and database entry and management.  Ability to work some evening and/or weekend hours as required.  Valid driver license with a good driving record; must be insurable. Physical Requirements Sedentary work. Talking, hearing, repetitive motions. Close visual acuity. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  Provides career counseling and assessment services (personality, work style, and leadership testing) to MBA/MA students such as delivering and interpreting assessment tools, developing resumes, providing mock interviews, reviewing career aspirations, crafting marketing plans and assessing various corporate opportunities. Develops and implements seminars and workshops on key placement topics such as resume development and marketing plan creation. Collaborates closely with key Career Management Center members, Alumni, and Corporate contacts as necessary. Collaborates with outplacement firms and off campus recruiters to review potential candidates. Develops close working relationships with Career Management Center staff to facilitate MBA/MA student networking via on campus events, email, and phone interaction. Shares counseling best practices with other CMC staff on how and when to utilize various assessment instruments such as Big Five Personality Types, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, and Holland Type. Performs other related duties as assigned.
