FORTNIGHTLY COLUMN WHITSUNDAY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION Due Tuesday ...
FORTNIGHTLY COLUMN WHITSUNDAY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION 2/5 Carlo Drive Cannonvale QLD 4802 firstname.lastname@example.org www.whitsundaydevelopment.com.au Due Tuesday 3rd February, 2009 This month we are hosting our bi-monthly Business Breakfast on climate change: impacts and opportunities. Specialist Dr Paul Campbell will discuss how businesses need to adapt to the changing business dynamics and how this could be an opportunity for small and large businesses to gain from the legislation and policy being introduced. This topic got me thinking about the Whitsunday region and what opportunities we might consider when planning and developing for the future. • Should we be considering renewable or green energy as a sector to diversify and sustain our economy? • What about clean technologies? • What types of businesses should we be trying to attract to our region and what do we need to do to get them here? • As I write this it is still raining - does water provide us with an opportunity? As individuals we are being encouraged to change our light bulbs to energy efficient ones, turn off air conditioners when we leave the house, put in water saving devices, recycle etc. And like many people, I like to think that by doing this we make a difference even if it is a very small one. But can we turn this into an economic opportunity for our region? I know that I have asked and not answered questions in this column. To be honest, I don’t have the answers but I would like to explore these questions further. If anyone has any ideas, thoughts or even further questions, I would love to hear from you.
