What you will do …

Accountability                                   Major Activities

Relationships                                      Foster     effective   working    relationships  with   tourism
                                                   stakeholders      including:   regional    and  local   tourism
                                                   organisations, local government, industry associations,
                                                   industry members and other key tourism participants.
                                                   Engage tourism stakeholders in Tourism Queensland
                                                   activities.
                                                   Build and maintain effective relationships and communications
                                                   with Tourism Queensland overseas offices.
                                                   Build and maintain effective relationships with all relevant
                                                   Tourism Queensland Groups in Brisbane.
                                                   Build and maintain effective relationships with the
                                                   Department’s Regional Tourism Development Director and
                                                   other key staff.
                                                   Build and maintain effective relationships with Tourism Australia
                                                   as appropriate.

Marketing                                      In conjunction with Tourism Queensland’s Queensland and
                                               international marketing teams, develop effective domestic and
                                               international marketing plans.
                                               Influence key stakeholders in-region to partner in and
                                               contribute financially to marketing initiatives at both a
                                               regional and state level.

Destination Design                             Develop specialist knowledge of the destination including
                                               experiences, gaps, future potential and niche market
                                               opportunities in order to provide expert input into the
                                               destination management process.
                                               Actively participate in the facilitation of the destination
                                               management plan.
                                               Implement the relevant actions of the Queensland Tourism
                                               Strategy and the destination management plan.

Product Development                            Provide consumer-based local input into the development of
                                               Regional Tourism Investment and Infrastructure Plans.
                                               Have a thorough understanding of key tourism infrastructure
                                               projects being managed by the Department’s Regional
                                               Tourism Development Director.
                                               Work with key stakeholders to ensure they are aware of soft
                                               product development opportunities and training tools.
                                               Develop and implement new soft product opportunities with
                                               key stakeholders in conjunction with the market activation
                                               team.
                                               Develop local aviation marketing strategies with the aviation
                                               team.

Industry Development                           Increase awareness of industry development opportunities
                                               and industry training tools.
                                               Actively participate in industry training programs to increase
                                               local sales and marketing opportunities.

Leadership and Teamwork                        Provide leadership to the Brisbane-based Zone Co-ordinator.
                                               Work as an effective member of the Tourism Queensland
                                               team sharing knowledge and experiences with other Tourism
                                               Queensland regionally-based staff.
                                               Work as an effective member of the joint Tourism Queensland
                                               and Department team

Administration                                 Manage a destination specific budget to ensure to maximum
                                               effectiveness.
                                               Provide high level of customer service to Tourism Queensland
                                               internal and external customers to assist in the development
                                               of wider corporate strategies

Where this can take you …

Internally, the Director role may be a stepping stone to Executive Director. There may be
some opportunities to move across Director roles to broaden experience and multiskill
across areas.      Externally, it can lead to CEO or executive roles in the same
profession/industry in large organisations. It may also lead to consultancy opportunities.
