Discussion Paper Response - Communications

Discussions on the LSC Communications paper were gratefully received.
Those PRGs who didn’t manage to discuss the topics below perhaps could do
so at future meetings in order that there is a more complete picture of the
overall feelings of the membership.

1. The LSC Website
We accept the comments from the groups on the LSC Website regarding
difficulties with navigation. We agree that there are issues with finding items
on the site. This is the primary reason for the development of the new
‘provider zone’ which will allow providers find what they need on a day-to-day
basis more easily.

A working group has been set up to develop this new addition to the LSC
Website.

The feedback on navigation and usability has been very useful and will feed
into the overall specification. We are currently looking at the procurement of
such a project and will report back to the PRGs in due course.

2. Provider Zone
Comments on the various tools that the Provider Readiness team discussed
such as toolkit, cash flow tool and diagnostic tool will also make their way into
the overall specification for a new area for providers.

Some who attended the PRGs discussed specifically podcasts, discussion
forums, Q&A areas etc. It would be useful to further these discussions to see
if there is wider support?

3. Focus and Focus on CDS
There was a lot of support for Focus and Focus on CDS going online. This
move is necessary as it offers the LSC substantial savings and is in line with
the overall move to e-communications.

A survey of those who receive Focus and Focus on CDS has just been
completed. It sought views on what stakeholders would like to see in an
online version of Focus and Focus on CDS. The data is being analysed and
we will report back to the PRGs during the summer.

The first online version of Focus and Focus on CDS is due in the autumn.

There was also a call to have an online subscription, which we are
implementing by the end of the summer. Stakeholders can register for an

email update alerting them to the availability of the latest edition, which will be
found on the LSC Website.

The nature of the magazine will also be changing. As the LSC Update is the
main vehicle for news (more later), Focus and Focus on CDS will aim to
contain more comment pieces not just from those within the LSC but also
from external stakeholders.

We are looking for firms and individual providers to talk about how reforms are
affecting them and strategies they have found to work. Should any members
of the PRG wish to contribute please get in contact with the Communications
team via your LSC representatives at your PRG.

4. LSC Update (email update)
It was good to see that the majority of the membership supports the LSC
Update. Comments were very useful and developments are underway.

A new look LSC Update will be launched by the end of the summer and it will
aim to be simpler in design and easier to navigate.

By the end of the summer individual providers will be able to register on the
LSC Website to receive the LSC Update. With this facility there will be more
marketing of the LSC Update, ensuring more providers are made aware that
they can register online and receive it.

There will also be more work to develop segmentation for providers who will
receive information most relevant to them.

5. LSC Manual
A working group has been set up to develop the future of the LSC Manual.

Comments were very useful and we acknowledge that the Manual is seen as
somewhat unwieldy. There will be a provider survey during the summer
asking providers how they wish to access the LSC Manual in the future: print,
online, CD Rom etc.

We will ensure that PRG members are included in the survey.

Comments about having to pay for the manual are also being considered.
