   Emphasised and updated the definitions for
    racism and discrimination

   Strengthened the need to improve current
    legislation governing race relations
              Race Relations Act 1976
   First main piece of legislation governing race
    equality in Britain
   Created three definitions
         -Direct discrimination
         -Indirect Discrimination
         -Victimisation
   Prohibited Discrimination in recruitment and
    selection processes
   Made it unlawful for anyone to provide goods,
    facilities or services to the public and discriminate on
    racial grounds
          New Duties
   The 2000 Act amends section 71 of the 1976 Act –
    It does not replace it
   New functions are Clinical Decisions, Clinical
    Governance and Law Enforcement
   Defines What is a Public Authority
   General and Specific Duties placed upon Public
    Authorities
   Policy and Service Delivery
   Publish, Promote and consult upon Race Equality
    Scheme
