Revelation 411 You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive
glory and honor and power. For you created everything,
and it is for your pleasure that they exist and were created.
We were created to worship God, which amounts to giving God pleasure. God made us to
please Him, and when we worship we please God. Understanding this redefines worship
in the church. Many of us have been taught over the years that worship is something you
do on Sunday morning when the music begins, and concludes with the benediction and
the threefold Amen. But if that were so then God could only expect worship from us once
a week, and for just a few minutes at that. Clearly, God’s definition of worship goes
beyond what we do in a ‘worship’ service on a Sunday morning. Worship is really a
way of life. It includes all the things we do to bring pleasure to God: obedience to His
word; spending time in His presence; learning His word; imitating His son; giving and
sowing into His church; taking care to fulfill the ministry we have received from Him.
Yup, worship is more than just singing, or even praise dancing. It’s the sum total of all
that we do to bring pleasure to God.
No fisherman tastes the worm before they put it on the hook, because it’s not for
them…it’s for the fish! Worship is not for us, it’s for God. Worship is the bait that hooks
God. Bishop Joseph Garlington
The economy of heaven is people; the atmosphere of heaven is worship. Darlene Zschech
There is no worship without sacrifice. Lou Giglio
When you shut creativity [which is a form of worship] down in the church, it breaks out
on Broadway…or in Disneyland. We stopped God from speaking in the church [through
allowing creativity], so He started speaking in the movie theatres. Bishop Joseph
…offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual
act of worship. Romans 12 1 (NIV)
