Tajuk Artikel: Indonesian government not involved in protests, says Najib
Sumber / Tarikh: The Star Online September 03, 2009 – Thursday

By MAZWIN NIK ANIS

PUTRAJAYA: The burning of Malaysian flags by protesters in Jakarta does not reflect relations enjoyed between
the two governments, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.

The Prime Minister said he believed the Indonesian government was not involved in these incidents and neither did
it initiate it. ―It is not something which was initiated by the Government. It is the act of certain groups of people who
want to see uneasiness and problems in our relations.

―President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono told me that he hopes for warm and cordial relations between the two
countries. He will personally call me to talk about developments and recent happenings in Indonesia and Malaysia.

―In fact, he called to voice his intention of visiting Malaysia in October,‖ Najib told reporters after giving the prize to
the winner of the 1Malaysia song contest yesterday.

There had been several protests against Malaysia in Jakarta of late over various issues, including allegations that
the Malaysian national anthem — Negara Ku — had been copied from the Indonesian song Terang Bulan. The
most recent one occurred on Tuesday when some 30 students pelted the Malaysian Embassy with rotten eggs and
attempted to raise an Indonesian flag at the gate.

The attack was reportedly triggered by allegations that a Balinese dance had been used to promote a television
show about Malaysia, although it was revealed that no Malaysian government agency had a role in the
advertisement.

Meanwhile, Information, Communications, Culture and Arts Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said the Government
would be organising a gathering of journalists from both countries to foster better media relations during Susilo‘s
official visit to Kuala Lumpur.

A Malaysian embassy official in Jakarta told The Star yesterday that no one was hurt in the incident but there have
been regular demonstrations at the Malaysian Embassy over the last few months which hit the peak during the
Ambalat dispute when Indonesia claimed that Malaysian warships had entered the Ambalat area in the Sulawesi
sea in early June.

―The still ongoing demonstration is heavily guarded by police but no demonstrators were stopped or arrested,‖ said
the embassy official.

In a related development, it is believed that the protest led to the mass attack on about 120 Malaysian websites by
a group of Indonesian hackers in an act of spite against Malaysia which they claimed liked to steal their country‘s
culture.

In a statement from a blog titled ―Terselubung‖, the hackers said they ―celebrated‖ Malaysia‘s Independence Day
on Monday by defacing the walls of local websites.

PUTRAJAYA: The Government will let the police and the Attorney-General‘s Chambers decide whether the group
that protested against the construction of a Hindu temple in Shah Alam recently had violated any laws under the
Sedition Act.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the authorities would determine if there were any violations of law
when residents of Section 23 Shah Alam staged the protest.

―We will leave it to the police and the A-G to decide on this, but most Malaysians regret the act,‖ he told reporters
here yesterday.

Last Friday, about 50 people gathered at the gates of the Selangor state secretariat building here carrying a cow‘s
head and warned of further action if a temple was constructed here.

On the latest development in Perak, Najib said it was up to the police to determine and uphold public order in the
country.

―It is the duty of the police (to maintain public order). Whatever it is, as citizens, we have to adhere and follow the
laws of this country,‖ he said when commenting on the ―convening‖ of the Perak state legislative assembly meeting
at the Heritage Hotel by Pakatan Rakyat.

On another matter, the Prime Minister said the Government would address the issue of the petrol hike soon,
adding that the Government had to subsidise more despite the slight increase.

―Our commitment to the rakyat is a subsidy of 30 sen but now it is more than that. I will address this and give the
figures soon,‖ he said.

Tajuk Artikel: Keep close watch on your children’s health, says Ismail

PUTRAJAYA: With the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) being held next week, parents have been
advised to keep a close watch on their children‘s health.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican said parents must exercise additional precautionary measures
especially if they have asthmatic children as they are in the high-risk group for Influenza A(H1N1).

The number of fatalities remains at 72 with no new deaths recorded in the past 24 hours, Dr Ismail announced,
adding that there are 264 confirmed cases from 1,238 patients being treated nationwide for influenza-like illnesses.

In JOHOR BARU, Lembaga Tabung Haji said there is enough anti-viral drugs for the 26,000 Malaysian pilgrims
performing the Haj this year.

Group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Ismee Ismail said apart from the meningitis vaccination
as required by the Saudi Arabian government, pilgrims would also get anti-viral drugs.
―We are working closely with the Health Ministry and will tell pilgrims where to get them,‖ he told reporters
yesterday after presenting Hari Raya Aidilfitri contributions to 240 recipients comprising the poor, single mothers
and orphans.

He said although pilgrims were not required to take anti-viral drugs, the board would advise them to do so to avoid
any complications during their stay in Mecca and Medina.

Ismee said the board had a team of 750 volunteer doctors, nurses and support staff to take care of Malaysian
pilgrims during the Haj season.

Tajuk Artikel: Most not affected by RON95 new price, says Ismail
Sumber / Tarikh: The Star Online September 03, 2009 – Thursday

By MAZWIN NIK ANIS

PUTRAJAYA: Most consumers are not affected by the five sen increase in the price of RON95 petrol as they are
essentially paying the same price for it as before.

Domestic Trade, Co-operative and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that prior to the
increase on Tuesday, only 1,445 out of 3,500 petrol stations nationwide carried RON 95 petrol which cost RM1.75
per litre compared to RON97 which was sold at RM1.80 per litre.

He said most consumers would not be affected as they are paying the same price for petrol per litre, except they
are now buying RON95 instead of RON97 which has been upgraded to become a premium product and sold at
RM2.05 per litre.

The RON95 petrol, which is suitable for all types of vehicles, is available at all pumps now.
Its introduction is in line with the phasing out of the cheaper RON92 petrol which accounted for only 5% of petrol
sales in the country.

Ismail Sabri said the public was upset with the five sen increase because they were confused and did not realise
that they are still paying the same amount for their petrol.

―The Government continues to subsidise petrol and spends RM304mil a month on this. I hope irresponsible parties
would not take the opportunity to spark anger and confusion among the people over this issue as we have not
actually increased the petrol price,‖ he said.

Ismail Sabri also announced that the wholesale and retail ceiling prices for 17 food items has been fixed for Hari
Raya Aidilfitri.

He said three new items were included in the list – imported garlic, ground nuts and potatoes – together with items
like chicken, eggs, round cabbage, red chillies, tomatoes, coconuts and shallots.
The ceiling prices would be imposed for 15 days beginning Sept 13.

However, the price of goods would still vary from place to place as other factors like transportation have to be
taken into consideration.

Ismail Sabri said enforcement officers would conduct checks to ensure retailers and wholesalers abide by the
ceiling price.
Tajuk Artikel: RM100,000 spent to upgrade terminal

to wait for the buses.

Shah Alam mayor Mazalan Md Noor said the city council had spent about RM100,000 to upgrade the bus terminal

Meant to be a temporary measure:

―They don‘t have to wait under the
hot sun anymore as the shelters
have ample room for them to sit while
waiting for the bus,‖ he said.

The bus terminal provides express bus services to passengers heading to the east coast and northern parts of the
country.
Its location near the Federal Highway is convenient for passengers in the city, especially students from the UiTM
main campus in Shah Alam as they can take the bus here instead of going all the way to Puduraya or the Klang
Bus terminal to do so.

However, when it was built several years ago, it was meant to be a temporary stop for the express buses.

There was however, a rising number of passengers using the service, especially during the festive season and
during school holidays.

―The bus terminal in Section 17 was not built properly and is not big enough to cater to the high volume of
passengers.

―So it is timely to upgrade the place while waiting for a proper bus terminal in Section U1 to materialise.
―Once the integrated bus terminal in Section U1 is open, then the Sect 17 terminal will serve as a station for local
stage buses serving the city area,‖ said Mazalan.

Work on the integrated bus terminal in Section U1 is expected to begin at the end of the year and would take about
two years.

The first phase is estimated to cost about RM20mil.

Under the first phase, costing RM20mil, 45 bays (for the buses) would be provided for bus companies to operate in
the complex.
The three-storey complex would also have ticketing counters, retail and food outlets on the first floor.
The car park and drop off points will be located on the second floor.

The second phase will include a pedestrian crossing from the terminal to the Commuter Station situated across the
Federal Highway.

The site was chosen as it is located near Stadium Shah Alam and the indoor stadium. The site is also easily
accessible from the Federal Highway and the NKVE.

With the opening of the terminal, the express buses do not have to enter the city centre, thus easing traffic
congestion.

THE recent staff recuitment drive by the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) has drawn flak from a councillor.

Chang Kim Loong, in his closing speech presented at last month‘s full board meeting, questioned the need to hire
more council employees when the council could upgrade its equipment to maximise the efficiency of the existing
workforce.

He said there were over 16,000 applicants to fill the 130 positions that would translate into cost increase via their
salary, insurance coverage for both employee and family members, housing allowance, bonus, furniture, uniform,
computer and other required items.

―The MPSJ office is already congested,‖ he said.

Chang also suggested that the council invest in automation such as photocopy machines with auto sorter, heavy
duty fax machines and computers with higher processing speed.

However, he was not given an answer at the full boardmeeting as his enquiries were shrugged off by MPSJ
president Datuk Adnan Md Ikshan.

Subang Jaya assemblyman Hannah Yeoh, when contacted, said the councillors should be given an answer as
they are the policy makers of the council.

Adnan, when met at the council‘s buka puasa event, said increasing the workforce is important as the responsibility
and workload of the council increased over time.

―Other than new developments within MPSJ‘s municipality, urban proverty and youth empowerment, which were
previously not our responsibility, is so now. Thus, we need more manpower,‖ he said.

Adnan also pointed out that one-third of the current staff were on a contract basis.

Urban Poor sub-committee in aid of orphans, single mothers, the disabled and the less privileged. A total of
RM100,000 was allocated to be distributed to the needy within a year.

Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, in his speech, said the less privileged should be given help to come
out of the poverty zone. ―They should be made independent,‖ he said.

Also present at the event were Selangor Local Government, Research and Studies committee chairman Ronnie
Liu, Kelana MP Loh Gwo-Burne, Kinrara assemblyman Teresa Kok and Subang Jaya assemblyman Hannah Yeoh.

Tajuk Artikel: PM: I will give facts on petrol prices, subsidies
Sumber / Tarikh: New Straits Times Online September 03, 2009 – Thursday

By Hamidah Atan

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said he will provide facts and figures to explain the pump
prices of petrol and the subsidies incurred by the government.

"We will address this later because I will have to give the facts.

"Our commitment is to continue giving a subsidy of 30 sen per litre, but now it is more than 30 sen. I will give the
figures later," he said after announcing winners of the 1Malaysia song contest at the Prime Minister's Department
yesterday.

He was asked about the increase in the prices of RON95 and RON97 that took effect on Tuesday.
RON95 petrol, which was introduced in May at RM1.75 per litre, is now at RM1.80 per litre, while RON97, which
was priced at RM1.80 per litre, is now RM2.05 per litre.

Announcing the new prices on Monday, Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail
Sabri Yaakob said the government had to continue subsidising petrol prices despite the hike.

On the arrest of opposition leaders in Perak yesterday, Najib said police had to maintain public order. "Whatever it
is, we all should abide by the law."

Police arrested three elected representatives from the opposition for allegedly breaching a court order that
prohibited any assembly within 30m of the Perak Darul Ridzuan building that houses the State Secretariat and
State Assembly hall.

Commenting on the pelting of rotten eggs at the Malaysian embassy in Jakarta, Najib said he believed that certain
quarters wanted to disrupt the good ties between Malaysia and Indonesia.

"This incident does not reflect the stance or views of Indonesian leaders. The Indonesian president told me that he
looked forward to close ties between the two countries.

"He always calls to inform me on developments involving our countries. This (incident) is not what the Indonesian
leaders want but is probably created by certain quarters who want to create a division between us."

Indonesia and Malaysia are involved in a disagreement over the Pendet dance.

The dance, performed by women in Balinese costume, appeared in an advertisement promoting Malaysia. Some
Indonesians had reacted strongly to this.
Tajuk Artikel: 'Many ignoring face mask advice'
Sumber / Tarikh: New Straits Times Online September 03, 2009 – Thursday

By Annie Freeda Cruez

KUALA LUMPUR: Many Malaysians with flu-like symptoms are ignoring the Health Ministry's advice to wear a face
mask in public.

Health officials all over the country have fanned out to check on compliance and, said Health director-general Tan
Sri Dr Ismail Merican, many people with flu-like symptoms were seen in shopping complexes, roadside stalls and
other public places without face masks or using a tissue to cover the mouth when coughing and sneezing.

"Every day, we repeat that influenza A spreads mainly through coughing or sneezing. "Cover your nose and mouth
with a tissue when coughing or sneezing and throw it in the trash bin after use," he said. "Wash your hands often
with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze, or use hand sanitisers."

Dr Ismail's advice to anyone with flu-like symptoms is to stay home, take their medication and keep away from
others as much as possible. He said people should avoid crowds and practise social distancing.

Parents must take precautions when taking their babies and children out, and they must monitor students in view
of the upcoming Penilaian Menengah Rendah examinations.

"If you have a severe illness or any of the warning signs such as breathing difficulties, pain or pressure in the chest
or abdomen, sudden dizziness, disorientation and vomiting, go to the nearest hospital." He said those with chronic
and underlying diseases must take anti-viral drugs to avoid complications.

Some 150,000 Malaysians are said to be infected with H1N1, with almost 90 per cent recovering with or without
medication. More than 7,000 people had to be hospitalised because of existing health conditions and
complications. The death toll stands at 75.

Yesterday, another 87 patients were admitted to hospital with influenza-like-illnesses and 160 were discharged.
There are 1,238 people with influenza-like-illnesses in 106 public and private hospitals nationwide. Of these, 264
have been diagnosed with H1N1.

Dr Ismail said 39 were in intensive care because they were in the high-risk categories.

Sumber / Tarikh: New Straits Times Online September 03, 2009 – Thursday

By Sulok Tawie

KUCHING: Penans in the remote areas of Baram want the government to help them build schools, kindergartens
and houses. And they want to be issued identity cards.

They made this known at a meeting five days ago with the state government led by Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri
Alfred Jabu at Lesung Laku.

Telang Usan State Assemblyman Lihan Jok yesterday described the meeting as "fruitful".

"They also wanted land for their economic activities, and rights over the land and forests they claim as theirs."

He said Penans had set up the blockades against timber and plantation companies to press their demands

"We have asked them to dismantle the blockades at Long Bangan, Long Belok and Long Nen and they have
agreed."

Jabu, the chairman of the state Cabinet Committee on Penan Affairs, said Penan leaders accepted the
government's advice on the importance of leading a settled life.

About three per cent of the Penan remain totally nomadic, and "we told them if they continue this way of life, they
will remain backward".

Jabu said the government had provided schools and development projects to those Penans who lead a settled life.

"They also plant padi and other crops."

Borneo Research Institute of Malaysia (Brimas) director Raymond Abin, meanwhile, said the Penans would not
dismantle the blockades unless their demands were met.

These include stopping logging companies from felling the forests and plantation companies from encroaching on
land over which they claim customary rights.

"I was given to understand that the government representatives were not willing to commit themselves on these
demands.

"And unless the government meets these demands, the blockades will continue."

Brimas is a non-governmental organisation that works closely with the Penans in Baram. Penan leaders also want
schools and houses because many are living in sheds and a large number of the children do not attend school.

"They want the schools to be built near their settlements or in areas where many Penans live," said Abin.

PUTRAJAYA: Three items have been added to the price control scheme for the Hari Raya festive season from
Sept 13 to 27.

Imported potatoes (from Indonesia and China), imported groundnuts and garlic from China are among the 18 items
with fixed ceiling prices during the period.

Among the other items are chicken, local beef, imported buffalo meat, chicken eggs, imported round cabbage,
mackerel, whole coconuts (wholesale price) and desiccated coconut (retail price).

Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the price of garlic
had gone up this year because of the rising cost of imports from China.

He also gave an assurance that there would be enough chickens. He said traders who wanted to sell the controlled
items must get a special licence, which was free, from his ministry's offices

Mobile offices will also be set up at major wet markets. Some 7,862 licences have been issued so far this season.
"Traders must adhere to the rules of the licence such as using pink-coloured price signboards, displaying their
licence and not selling their goods above the ceiling prices."

He urged the public to email e-aduan@kppdnkk.gov.my, send SMS text message to 32255 or call 1-800-886-800
to report any abuse by traders.

Tajuk Artikel: PM: Let police and A-G decide if cow-head protest seditious
Sumber / Tarikh: The Sun Online September 03, 2009 – Thursday

by Charles Ramendran, Hemananthani Sivanandam and Husna Yusop

PUTRAJAYA (Sept 2, 2009): THE prime minister said the public should leave it to the
police and Attorney-General to decide if demonstrators who displayed a cow‘s head
while protesting against the relocation of a Hindu temple in Shah Alam had violated
the Sedition Act.

―However, for most Malaysians, it was a very regretful incident. The police and A-G
will decide whether the action of the protesters is an offence under the Sedition Act,‖
Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today after announcing the winner of the 1Malaysia
songwriting contest.

Police have completed their investigation into last Friday‘s protest by a group of 50
residents of Section 23, Shah Alam.

District police chief ACP Noor Azam Jamaluddin told theSun yesterday the investigation papers of the case,
classified under sedition and illegal assembly, have been submitted to the A-G.

Police received more than 50 reports on the protest in front of the State Secretariat building after Friday prayers
and recorded the statements of 56 people, including the protesters.
Confirming this, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan said police had identified those responsible. He
said the police took 60 statements in three days to single out who were involved in the protest.

Contacted at about 10.30pm, Selangor police chief DCP Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said the AG had directed the
investigating officer of the case to gather more information and also record further statements from several of
witnesses.

"We will comply with the AG's instructions and resubmit the investigation papers on a later date." he told theSun.

The protest has been condemned by political leaders from both the Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat.
Today, at about 3.30pm in the Shah Alam district police headquarters, Selangor
executive councillor Dr Xavier Jeyakumar, Klang MP Charles Santiago and Shah Alam
MP Khalid Samad met with Noor Azam for about 30 minutes to get an update on the
                         investigation.

―The OCPD told us that the case is being probed for sedition and illegal assembly and
has been completed. He also told us that action would be taken against those who
attempted to exploit and sensationalise the incident,‖ Jeyakumar said.

Khalid said the police should have arrested the protesters instead of turning a blind eye
on seeing their despicable action. He also said that he had spoken to the residents who
had no objections to the construction of the temple in their area and that they had been
                            threatened by the protesters.

He also refuted claims that there are more than 8,000 Hindu temples and shrines in Shah Alam. The actual
number is only 14, he said. ―There are six registered temples and eight which are unregistered.
As for mosques and surau, there are 70 in the Shah Alam. This is a fair ratio considering the number of Muslims
and Hindus in the township,‖ Khalid said.

In Putrajaya, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the Section 23 residents would meet Malaysia
Hindu Sangam Council officials again to resolve the protest.

He said the two parties met yesterday and would meet again tonight to resolve the relocation of the temple
amicably.

―The residents have taken a proactive approach of meeting the council and maybe they will come up with a joint
statement together,‖ said Hishammuddin after a closed-door meeting with the residents in his office.

Among those in the meeting is Section 23 Action Committee chairman Ahmad Mahyuddin Abdul Manaf, who
opposed the construction of the temple, and Section 23 Residents Committee chairman Zainuddin Md Yusoff.

Hishammuddin said those present at the meeting said they had no intention at all to use the ―cow head‖ or ―incite
racial sentiments‖.

However, he said the protesters would have to face the consequences and could not escape from any action.

―They are not going to get off scot free, they just felt victimised because they felt there is another valid explanation
but they have no intention on their part to cause racial divide,‖ he said, adding they only wanted ―their voices to be
heard‖.
Hishammuddin said the ―cowhead incident‖ was not the first as other similar incidents
had taken place before, citing the example in Malacca where a pig‘s head was wrapped
in an Umno flag and placed in front of the office building.

He also warned people not to stir up racial sentiments and contradict the 1Malaysia
policy.

Although the protest reportedly did not have a permit, Hishammuddin said the protest
was not big and the organiser was respectful of the Sultan of Selangor.

―If they wanted to have a bigger protest, they could have. They just wanted to voice
their unhappiness and the unwillingness of the state government to consider their
request,‖ he said.

PETALING JAYA (Sept 2, 2009) : Although there have been 72 deaths from influenza A (H1N1) to date,
Malaysians are still not paying heed to the Health Ministry‘s advice to wear masks in crowded public places.

―Based on health officials observation, many people are still going to crowded places like shopping complexes,
stalls and outlets and commercial buildings without face masks,‖ Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail
Merican said in a statement today.

―Even though they do not show symptoms of Influenza A (H1N1), there is still potential for infection from those with
symptoms. Worse still when people bring small children (to crowded places),‖ he said.

He said people should keep away from crowded places, including social gatherings and functions, as much as
possible.

Urging everyone, yet again to strictly adhere to the Health Ministry‘s advice, Mohd Ismail reminded parents and
guardians to monitor their children‘s health, especially those sitting for the UPSR examination next week.

―Please be extra careful especially for children with high risk factors such as asthma, and take the recommended
measures to prevent them from being infected by the virus,‖ he said.

The Health Ministry reiterated its advice to all those with Influenza-like-Illness (ILI) symptoms, including those
under home-quarantine, to practice social distancing by maintaining at least one metre of gap when dealing with
other people.

Mohd Ismail said as of 9am today, 87 new patients with ILI have been admitted to hospitals for treatment, while
160 patients have been discharged.

―This brings the total number of ILI patients being treated in 106 hospitals nationwide to 1,238. Of the total, 264
have been confirmed positive of the virus,‖ he said.

From those confirmed positive of H1N1, 39 patients are under the Intensive Care Unit with 29 (74%) of them are
from the high risk group.
Tajuk Artikel: Indonesian maids to get one day off a week
Sumber / Tarikh: The Sun Online September 03, 2009 – Thursday

KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 2, 2009) : Indonesians maids in Malaysia will be given one day off a week and be allowed
to keep their passports during their stay in the country.

The Home Ministry, in a statement today, stated that the rest day requirement would be enforced after
amendments were made to the Employment Act 1955.

These terms were agreed upon by Malaysia and Indonesia at the third meeting of the Working Committee on the
Recruitment and Placement of Indonesian Maids on Aug 20, it added

The Malaysian delegation was led by the Home Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Seri Mahmood Adam.

The meeting also agreed that the temporary work permits of Indonesian maids who ran away from their employers
would be revoked immediately and the maids would not be allowed to enter Malaysia again to work.

It said the meeting also agreed on the salary range for Indonesian maids in Malaysia where the starting salary will
be determined by market forces .

The committee will hold its fourth meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia, this Saturday, where among the issues to be
discussed will be on the fee structure for employment of maids.

This is important because it is a burden for Malaysian employers who have to cope with the high cost imposed by
maid agencies, it added.

The issue on the fee structure has not been solved since the second meeting in 2007 following Indonesia's failure
to submit a new fee structure to be considered by Malaysia. – BERNAMA

Tajuk Artikel: Najib: Petrol price adjustment due to increase in subsidy
Sumber / Tarikh: The Sun Online September 03, 2009 – Thursday

PUTRAJAYA (Sept 2, 2009) : The price of petrol at the pump had to be adjusted slightly because of an increase in
subsidy, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said today.

He said the government was committed to a 30 sen subsidy for every litre of petrol sold to the rakyat (people).

"Our promise to the rakyat is a subsidy of 30 sen but the subsidy is currently more than 30 sen. So there has to be
a slight adjustment, a minor adjustment," he told reporters after announcing the winner of the 1Malaysia song
competition at Bangunan Putra Perdana, here.

He was asked to comment on the increase in the pump price for RON95 from RM1.75 to RM1.80 per litre while
RON 97 is now sold at RM2.05 from RM1.80 previously, both effective since yesterday.

As he was answering the question during the press conference, Najib said he would provide a detailed explanation
later. – BERNAMA

Information Minister Datuk Seri Rais Yatim at the far left.

PUTRAJAYA (Sept 2, 2009) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has called on all quarters to respect the
law to ensure that public order is maintained at all times.

The prime minister made the reminder in the wake of attempts by opposition parties in Perak to "convene" a state
legislative assembly sitting today.

"Police have the power to ensure that public order is maintained," Najib told reporters after announcing the winner
of 1Malaysia songwriting competition at the Perdana Putra Building, here.

He was asked to comment on the latest development in Perak where three opposition assemblymen were arrested
for allegedly breaching a court order that prohibited any assembly within 30 metres of the Perak Darul Ridzuan in
Ipoh where the Perak state legislative assembly is housed.

To another question, Najib said he deeply regretted the demonstration in Shah Alam on Friday.

The demonstration, which was to protest against the relocation of a temple in Section 23, also saw several people
brandishing a cow head outside the Selangor secretariat building.

The prime minister said he would leave it to the authorities and the Attorney-General's Chambers to determine the
types of action against those involved.

Asked on the burning of the Jalur Gemilang by demonstrators during a protest in Indonesia, Najib said he hoped
that the incident would not affect the cordial relations between both countries.

Saying that he was sure it was not what the Indonesian government wanted, Najib said, he and Indonesian
president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono had close relations and were in constant contact to discuss issues of mutual
interest. -- BERNAMA
Tajuk Artikel: Series of dialogues to set record straight over temple relocation:
Selangor MB
Sumber / Tarikh: The Sun Online September 03, 2009 – Thursday

Maria J.Dass

SHAH ALAM (Sept 2, 2009) : The Selangor government is lining up a series of dialogues with stakeholders to set
the record straight over the contentious relocation of a century-old temple from Section 19 Shah Alam to an
industrial lot in Section 23 here.

Claiming that there were some parties who do not want to see the issue resolved,
Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said the dialogue was necessary to
settle the matter amicably and explain to the people the reasons for the relocation.

Speaking at a press conference after the state executive council meeting today, he said
talks and efforts to relocate the temple have been going on for the last 26 years and
those who say that there has been no consultation with the parties involved are not in
tune with the facts.

"That is why we have lined up dialogues to tell people what actually happened and
listen to the views of all relevant parties," he explained.

Two or more dialogue sessions have been lined up to tell people how the state had
come to the decision to move the temple to Section 23 after numerous plans to move it to other areas were
shelved for various reasons.

The first dialogue is scheduled to be held on Saturday and will be open only to Section 23 residents.
Following this, another one will be held to brief and hear the views of all stakeholders around Shah Alam including
community leaders, assemblymen, parliamentarians, local councillors, non-governmental organisations and media
organisations.

A third dialogue is also being planned for leaders from both the Pakatan Rakyat and Barisan Nasional. In addition
pamphlets will be distributed to the general public to explain the exact situation.

Earlier state executive councillor for Welfare, Women‘s Affairs and Science, Technology and Innovation Rodziah
Ismail said letters have been sent to Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Tanjung Karang
parliamentarian Datuk Noh Omar and Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa Malaysia (Perkasa) president Datuk Ibrahim Ali
to inform them of what had happened in the past and what is being done to resolve the issue.

The dialogue according to Rodziah, who is also Batu Tiga assemblywoman, is an extra effort by the state
government towards resolving the problems because there is no requirement by law to do so.

The Selangor Planning Guideline and Standards Manual produced by the previous state administration in 2007
states that a buffer zone of at least 50m should separate a non-Muslim place of worship from the dwelling of a
Muslim community.

The Town and Country Planning Act 1976 also states that in an area where there is no local plan, the local
authority (Shah Alam City Council in this case) is required on receipt of application for planning approval to notify
owners of neighbouring lands not separated by a road or drain exceeding 20m of their right to object or comment.

Where there is a local plan, there is no legal duty to inform the owners unless the development is potentially
inconsistent with the local plan. The land on which the proposed temple is to be built in this case is situated on
industrial land which is bordered by a monsoon drain and road. The nearest house is situated about 300m away
from the temple.
Tajuk Artikel: MB: Action against Muslims only in extreme cases
Sumber / Tarikh: The Sun Online September 03, 2009 – Thursday

by Maria J. Dass

SHAH ALAM (Sept 2, 2009) : Action against Muslims under the relevant syariah enactments will be taken only in
extreme cases involving the consumption, sale or serving of alcohol, Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid
Ibrahim said.

He was replying to questions on the sale of beer in Shah Alam from state executive
councillor in charge of religious affairs Datuk Dr Hassan Mohamed Ali at a state
executive council meeting today.

Speaking to the press after the meeting, Klalid described the beer issue as a
community problem that needed to be worked out.

―When the time comes we will meet with the sultan and parties concerned to discuss
issues pertaining to upholding religious values in Islam,‖ he said.

On another matter, state executive councillor for housing, building and squatter
management Iskandar Abdul Samad said following complaints that the increase in
rentals for public housing projects was too high, a mechanism has been worked out
                                                                                       Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim
to reduce the rate especially for households below the RM1,500 household income
level and those with large families.

―The decision to increase the monthly rental rate from RM124 to RM250 was made by the previous Barisan
Nasional-led state administration in June 2007, ‖ Iskandar said.

In consideration of tenants who were having problems forking out the extra cash, the state has decided to lower
the rate for families with a household income of less than RM1,500.

Based on the number of family members, those who fall in this group are entitled to further reductions.

Others entitled to reductions include families with four to seven children with a household income of RM2,100, a
family of eight to 10 children with an income of less than RM2,550 and those with 11-15 children with an income of
less than RM3,300

GEORGETOWN: Walaupun Jabatan Hal Ehwal Agama Islam Pulau Pinang (JHEAIPP) meningkatkan operasi

PENGUAT KUASA JHEAIP memeriksa kenderaan milik

berkenaan termasuk 21 warga asing.

dirempuh.

Pasangan yang ditahan atas kesalahan berkelakuan kurang sopan di tempat awam didakwa mengikut Seksyen 29
Enakmen Kesalahan Jenayah Syariah Negeri Pulau Pinang 1996, yang membawa denda tidak melebihi RM1,000
atau enam bulan penjara atau kedua-duanya sekali.

Tajuk Artikel: Melaka & Negeri Sembilan: Tiada tempat selesa layari internet

Seorang penuntut Kolej Universiti Islam Melaka (Kuim), Fida Ezzani Ismail, 18, ketika ditemui berkata MPAG

Penuntut Universiti Metropolitan Kuala Lumpur (KLUM), Nursyazwani Mohd Yazid, 18, pula berkata kemudahan

mereka," katanya.

terbabit.

bayaran inventori berkai-tan,‖ katanya.

semasa operasi dilakukan.
