         Purpose of the survey
The results of the monthly manufacturing production and sales survey are used to calculate
indices of the physical volume of manufacturing production. These indices provide an
indicator of the real level of manufacturing activity in the economy. They are used in
monitoring the state of the economy and formulation of economic policy. They are also
important inputs to estimation of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
