					Cold Mountain
  (The actual mountain)
                         Where is it?
•   Cold Mountain is a mountain in the Appalachian Mountains of Western
    North Carolina in the USA. The mountain is located within the Shining
    Rock Wilderness of the Pisgah National Forest about 15 miles (24
    kilometres) southeast of Waynesville and 35 miles (56 kilometres)
    south of Asheville. The mountain lies completely within federal lands
    and is uninhabited. It rises to 5,968 feet (1,819 meters) above sea level.
What would you see on
   cold mountain?
PLANTS
Plants continue to grow throughout the spring
and summer on cold mountain, including many
different species of trillium.




CAMPSITES
Near the Cold Mountain summit is the
prime campsite, although campers have
to be prepared for chilly nights on the
hottest summer days. Very near the
summit is a flat rock outcropping that
provides 180 degree views. It's a
perfect place for a picnic!
This is a farm, situated at the base
         of cold mountain.




 Although no one lives actually on the mountain,
 people have a few farms at the base. This would be
 like Ada’s farm.
                 Hikers
• Hiking – only serious hikers should
  attempt to reach the 6,030-foot summit. As
  it is totally uninhabited, and it is
  unreachable by road.
                Cameras
There is a camera set up on the south side of
cold mountain, it takes pictures every 30 minutes
so scientists and enthusiasts can monitor the
changes.
                Pigeon River
• When you cross the bridge over the Pigeon
  River, (this river is referred to in the novel) you
  have crept up the mountainside. will find yourself
  feeling as though you have just gone back in
  time. It is designed just as the original settlers
  would have populated the site; the first homes
  would have gathered around the river. The fields
  would have been used for agriculture and farm
  homes (Ada’s house) As automobiles would
  have replaced horse-drawn carriages, homes
  would
  Cold mountain was made
 famous because of the film,
which was based on Frazier's
           book.
            BUT!!!
The film wasn’t actually filmed at, or
  anywhere near cold mountain!!
  It was filmed in Romania in the
      Carpathian Mountains !!!
      THIS IS HOW COLD MOUNTAIN
       APPEARS AT THE MOMENT.
