Position Vacancy Posting Tips
For BEACON
1. General Information:
a. PQ13, action 35 is used to create a position posting
b. PQ13, action 36 is used to maintain (extend/change/cancel) a position posting
c. ZOMR014 is used to view the position vacancy posting (see #8 for more information)
Note:
*The validity period is not the same as the posting date; do NOT change the validity
period; the posting dates are entered on a different screen
2. The position did not post on the website, now what?
a. Make sure you do not have any special characters (* , • etc. ) within the text
b. Make sure you post text on the 1st line (description of work, competencies and ksa’s,
training & experience, how to apply)
c. Make sure you did not change the validity date (the end date should default to
12/31/1999)
d. Make sure you include a space at the end of each line of the subtypes (description of
work, competencies/ksa’s, training & experience, and how to apply)

Make sure the cursor is on the Press the End button on your Press the space bar- not the enter

3. The position vacancy is posted but it’s missing the contact address information.
How do I correct this?
To create a mailing address for the contact person use transaction PO13

4. The position I need to post is part-time, how do I post a pro-rated salary range?
As you are posting the position using PQ13, on the Create Vacancy Posting Data
screen (the last page which contains the hiring range)

5. Extending posting dates or re-posting positions
a. Use transaction PQ13 to enter the position number, active status=1, do not change
the validity date, enter action code 36, click execute
b. Use the exit icon (gold circle with a up arrow) to advance through the next four
pages since there are no changes
c. To extend the posting date, leave the original posting start date as is; change the
to date to the new closing date
d. To repost a position, change the original posting date to the new desired posting
date and change the to date to the new closing date
6. How often are position postings updated?
a. Vacancies are updated to the web four times daily:
12:00 am 10:00 am 12:00 pm 2:00 pm

*This schedule only seems to apply to updates/changes (i.e. adding a mailing
address) however data must be entered at least 30 minutes prior to the time listed
above.
*New postings generally update overnight and do not appear to follow this
schedule. Most new postings tend to post to the web during late morning
(~10:00am). If your position does not post overnight, please follow the guidelines
in #2.
*If you’ve followed the guidelines for #2 and your position still has not posted to
the web, call Andrea Clinkscales in Recruitment Services, at 919 733-2940 ext

7. The position vacancy is posted but the location shown on the website is incorrect.
How do I correct this?
a. The location comes from the Main address of the vacant position. First, check
BEACON to determine what location is denoted in the Main address using transaction
PO13D

8. Vacancy Posting Report-ZOMR014
a. Review the job vacancy announcement before it’s posted to the web. Be sure
to check for typographical errors, missing contact information, proper alignment etc and
make the necessary corrections before it’s posted to the website.
b. The location indicated in the ZOMR014 report could differ from what appears
on the website; so make sure you check the website to ensure the correct location
appears, if not, follow the steps in # 7
