									                     SPREADSHEET BATTLESHIP
Objective: Students will:

 Navigate around the spreadsheet screen
 Practice formatting cells and cell data
 Demonstrate naming and use of multiple sheets
 Reinforce the four types of data found in a spreadsheet

Directions:

1. You need to pair up with another student next to or across from their computer.

2. In a new workbook titled Battleship.xls, create two worksheets named Mine and
   HisHers.

3. Next, input the first row of data, including formatting, as shown below, in the Mine
spreadsheet. You should replace the actual word with either a value or text as stated.

                           A B C D E F G H
1 Text Value Value Value Text Value Value Value

4. You should next create their battlefield by placing the following ships anywhere between
the range of A2 and H20 on the Mine spreadsheet. Format each cell with the
   corresponding color:

2 Text Bombers 2 Value Submarines 3 Formula Mariners 1 Function Battleship
    blue green orange purple

Note: You should use a link (i.e., =E1) when creating Text Bombers and Value
    Submarines.

5. You are now ready to play Spreadsheet Battleship. Take turns with your partner calling
out cell names (C8, H20, etc.). When Student A “hits” Student B’s ship, Student A
would then fill in the cell with the word “HIT” in the corresponding color on HisHers
spreadsheet. Ex: If Student A “HITS” Student B’s Text Bomber, Student A would type
the word “HIT” in blue font color. Student B would of course have to tell Student A what
kind of ship it was that was hit in order to know what color to make the font. Student B
would then place a border around the ship that was hit on the Mine spreadsheet. If you
miss they would type the word “MISS” in black font color. You must “hit” all 8 ships in
   order to win.

*Note that “formula view” of cells is showing. The spreadsheet would display the text or
values specified in the formula.
