Opportunities for people receiving Disability Support Pension to access Job Network employment service JOB futures sites in Brisbane, Sydney, Newcastle, Melbourne and Perth are participating in a pilot aimed at giving better access to people on Disability Support Pensions to services to help them gain employment. If you are on the Disability Support Pension, and interested in going back to work or job oriented study, you can sign on to the pilot at any of our participating offices. We offer support, for example through the provision of Auslan interpreter assistance, to enable you to access our services. Through this pilot JOB futures can help you: ª establish a long term career goal, with a plan about how to get there; ª identify the type of job and employer to target in your job search; ª refine your job search strategy – including preparing a resume, application letters and helping with your preparation for job interviews; ª secure a work experience placement; ª identify any personal development or work skills training that you might need; ª meet with and get support from other job seekers. JOB futures can help with training funds, transport and other costs related to getting and keeping a job. Our marketing staff will contact employers on your behalf to help you get your ‘foot in the door’. We can work with you to find a workplace that will enable you to manage your health and/or treatment regime and can talk you through issues around disclosure to prospective employers. We maintain close contact with groups representing the consumers of these services, making sure we can alert you to any opportunities and give you advice about other services that might be useful to you. Meeting the needs of Deaf and Hearing Impaired job seekers Our offices in Strathfield (moving soon to Burwood) and Fortitude Valley have special expertise in working with deaf and hearing impaired clients. Through our connections with employers, we can help you find a meaningful job that fits with your goals. We work with you and with your employer to ensure that any additional assistance, like interpreters or adaptive technology, can be provided. Meeting the needs of mature job seekers Across the JOB futures network we run many specialist programs for mature job seekers, and we are particularly aware of the needs of DSP clients in this group. We can help you re-think your job goals, update your skills, and put you in contact with employers who will value your skills.
