RELEASE OF THE EXPOSURE DRAFT: PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE
(ACCREDITATION) RULES
Section 81-1 of the Private Health Insurance Act 2007 (the Act) provides that “an insurance
policy meets the quality assurance requirements in this Division if the policy prohibits the
payment of benefits for a treatment that does not meet the standards in the Private Health
Insurance (Accreditation) Rules”.
Section 14 of the Private Health Insurance (Transitional Provisions and Consequential
Amendments) Act 2007 provides for the commencement of Section 81-1 of the Act on
1 July 2008.
An exposure draft of the Private Health Insurance (Accreditation) Rules is attached to this
circular for comment. We invite written submissions from interested parties on the proposed
Rules by close of business on Friday 28 March 2008. Please send submissions by e-mail to
