					BUSINESS PLAN 2008 - 2011

Victim Support ACT was established in July 2007 to provide an integrated service for victims of crime. The service provides support & information,
counselling & physical therapies, and specialised assistance to enable victims to participate effectively in the justice process.

Mission
The mission of Victim Support ACT is to create a centre of excellence in providing assistance to victims of crime in the ACT.

Vision
The Vision for the Department of Justice and Community Safety is for – ‘a fair, safe and peaceful community where people’s rights and interests
are respected and protected’.

        We support the JACS vision by:
            •   Promoting victims’ recovery from the harm suffered because of the crime;
            •   Promoting victims’ rights and their access to and participation in justice processes;
            •   Enabling victims to take part in the social, economic and cultural life of their community; and

            •   Leading policy and law reform that better meets the rights and interests of victims of crime.

        Our Aims for 2008 – 2011 are:
                    To build a responsive, accessible and sustainable service for victims of crime.

                    To build strong relationships with our clients, our partners and our stakeholders.

                    To strengthen and build the talent and capability of our staff.

                    To provide a safe and accessible facility that meets the current & future needs of clients and staff.

                    To identify and initiate law and service reform that better meets the rights and interests of victims of crime

Our Business Outlook:

Over 2008 – 2011, we expect that demand for the services of Victim Support ACT will continue to grow. The strong partnerships we will forge with
our justice and community partners will support this demand. We intend to play an active role in supporting victim involvement in and reform of the
administration of justice.

Committed and dynamic professional staff deliver the services in Victim Support ACT. We will support them in this demanding work with a strong
staff development framework. As a centre of excellence, Victim Support ACT will work towards establishing core competencies for victim support
staff, and training opportunities to improve and maintain quality and responsiveness. Our services will be strengthened through the
implementation of robust operational procedures, a comprehensive policy framework, secure and reliable record keeping, and decent
accommodation.

Victim Support ACT will actively promote victims’ rights and will support the statutory functions of the Victims of Crime Coordinator as an advocate
for victims in the administration of justice. It will additionally support the statutory functions of the Domestic Violence Project Coordinator.

Victim Support ACT will play an active role locally and nationally in improving responses to victims of crime in all their diversity.
