                                  Requirements for the construction of beauty salons are contained within the Local Government
•                                 Act 1993 and Regulation.
Prepared September 2003                     Structural Requirements
                                            (i)       The premises must be structurally suitable for the carrying out of
                                            beauty treatment.
                                            (ii)      Beauty salons carrying out any skin penetration procedures as listed in
                                            the Public Health Act 1991 and Regulation shall install a wash hand                    ba-
                                  sin in the work area. The basin is to be serviced with hot and cold           water through a sin-
                                  gle outlet and supplied with soap and single-use                              towels.
                                            (iii)     The wall behind any wash basin shall be covered with a material that is
                                            smooth and impervious to moisture.

          Hygiene
          The premises must be provided with:
          (i)     Washing facilities, drainage, ventilation, impervious floor coverings and lighting.
          (ii)    Storage facilities for appliances and utensils.
          (iii)   Shelves, fittings and furniture constructed of materials that are smooth and impervious to moisture.

 4        Operation of Beauty Salons
 Beauty Salon operators shall ensure that all procedures are in compliance with the Regulation and the NSW Health Department
 Guidelines on Skin Penetration and Skin Penetration Code of Best Practice.
 Sharp instruments (such as needles, lances and blades) are to be placed in a special sharps disposal container and disposed of in
 the correct manner.
 The premises, any appliance, fittings and equipment are to be kept clean at all times.
