Why the name change?
Ever since we were established in 1797 we have been working hard to give customers what they want. Our name change does not mean that Norwich Union has been taken over by any other company. Rest assured our name change is simply the latest example of how we’ve evolved. We believe that to stay competitive in the global marketplace, we need a consistent name, branding and vision – wherever we are in the world.

When is the change of name happening?
You may already know that the Norwich Union name will soon be changing to Aviva. If not, you’ll see more about it in the newspapers and on television over the coming months. The actual Norwich Union name is changing to Aviva from 1st June 2009. To find out more visit www.aviva.co.uk
Why ‘Aviva’?
Aviva was formed in 2000 by combining 3 great British companies – Norwich Union, Commercial Union and General Accident – to form the largest insurance provider in the UK. Although we have still been known as Norwich Union in the UK, we have been trading as Aviva globally. So now, in order to have a consistent name throughout the world, we are officially changing our name in the UK to Aviva.
From 1st June 2009, our name is changing to Aviva
How will this affect me?
Our name change is just that, simply a change in our company name, it will make absolutely no difference to your relationship with us. In fact, as a global company we will be able to use our global experience and expertise to bring you even better products and services in the future. If you have any Direct Debits with Norwich Union, we’ll automatically change the payee details to Aviva. And if we make payments to you, from 1st June 2009 you’ll see the name Aviva on your bank statements or cheques instead of Norwich Union. You won’t need to do a thing.
